Also: for those of you attending BEA next week, I'll be signing on Saturday morning, the 30th, at Table 5. at 10:30 am. Then I'll be doing an informal signing at the Penguin booth from 11:30-12.
Whew! I get a little tired just looking at that. But because I didn't do much traveling for Lock and Key, I'm actually really excited to get out there and see my readers. Before then, though, I have to get my act together. Here at home, I'm all about jeans and flip flops and ponytails, but on book tour you kind of have to look, you know, cute. Or at least like you're doing a book reading, not running out to buy tuna salad at Whole Foods. So I have to get a haircut, an eyebrow wax, and some decent clothes that do not have sticky mac-and-cheese handprints on them. Also: cute shoes that are also comfortable, a couple of really good books for the plane rides, and possibly a sedative to keep me from freaking out about being a FULL COUNTRY away from my daughter.
*gulp*
That's the thing that's so crazy about all this. On the one hand, I'm so excited to get out and travel, see the readers, share the book. Not to mention get to stay in nice hotels (if only fleetingly), hang out with cool people and maybe even get to sleep past 5:30am once or twice. But at the same time, my heart honestly ACHES when I think about leaving Sasha. So it's like a no-win situation. My husband, every time I start bemoaning this (which is increasingly often) tells me that I need to just decide to enjoy it. Go out and give it all I have, and just, you know.....go along for the ride. (He doesn't actually say that, because he is not that cheesy. But I am.) And that is what I will try to do.
But, if you do see me in California or Florida or NYC, and ask me about the baby, don't be shocked if I, you know, have to swallow hard or sniffle a bit, or quickly change the subject to The Real Housewives or my current obsession with Taylor Kitsch. I'm not being rude. It's just a defense mechanism, I promise.
Have a great day, everyone!
