So here we are at Monday, and things have (finally) kind of calmed down a bit. I've had such a blast doing all my promotion stuff---emergency room trips and babysitter crises aside---but it is nice to finally be at home and know I don't have to go anywhere, at least anytime soon. This weekend, I did a lot of laundry, hung out with my baby (who has learned to clap AND crawl really fast) and tried to catch up on my sleep. And somehow, it is now May. How did THAT happen?

I've mentioned here before that I feel that I used to be oh so organized and together, and now....well, not so much. Case in point: on Saturday, I was at Quail Ridge Books in Raleigh, getting ready to go out and speak, when I realized that 1) I had a Banana Republic security tag and 2) a dry cleaning tag both stuck to my dress. Which I have owned for, like, years. Sigh. There was a time when I would have planned my outfit out days in advance, tried on multiple pairs of shoes to find the Perfect Ones, and devoted ample time to Looking My Best. Instead, I threw on what was clean, and found myself grabbing some nearby scissors in the Quail Ridge back room to clip off my tags. But oh, well. The people that came out didn't seem to mind. And that's all that matters, right?

I also used to be really good about taking pictures at all my events. But this time, I kept forgetting, although I did still manage to get a few.

Here's the line at my signing in Alpharetta, where the staff took SUCH good care of me:

and signing books:

And here's me with Micah, Paige, Catherine (not Cat!) and Emma, who came out to see me in Decatur:

Finally, my crowd at Quail Ridge on Saturday (not bothered by lack of Looking My Best, at least I hope not)

Thanks again to everyone who has come out to see me, especially those of you who have traveled great distances, like Elizabeth, from Florida, and Robyn, also from Florida, and the girls from South Carolina and Massachusetts, as well as the adults who trekked along with them. I can only hope it was worth the trip. Security and dry clean tags and all.

My daughter is clapping at me. We all need a hand now and then, right?
Have a good day, everyone!

Come to Chicago, please!!!!

I just finished Lock & Key and I can't even begin to tell you how inspirational you are. Sappy email coming soon.

Also, I HATE when I end up with security tags on my clothes. You walk back into the store to get the tag taken off and the alarms go off and they look at you like you're a thief... UGH. It used to happen all the time at Express. I usually whined and got a free gift card out of it, though. Heehee.

This is kind of random but I just wanted to tell you that your book The Truth About Forever helped me through one of the most painful experiences of my life. On Friday I had to go to the hospital because I got a massive migraine and they were afraid I was having a brain hemorrhage. The only way to test for that is by doing a lumbar puncture, which it absolutely horrible, but while the doctor was numbing me she asked me what my favorite thing to do is, and I told her reading, and she asked what my favorite book was, I told her The Truth About Forever, and so during the procedure when the pain was unbearable she told me to pretend i was curled up reading that book. I imagined I was reading the part when Wes comes to see Macy at the library to ask where to tongs were making Bethany and Amanda look like jerks and she ends up jumping over the counter to leave with him. It really helped a lot, so I thank you for writing that book, because without it the pain would have been so much worse.

note: luckily I was NOT having a brain hemorrhage :)

A Note From Ali
I would really love to meet you, so I will keep my eye out for any signings up to two states away from Indiana (Me now.) or Colorado (Me this summer.)

I would never say, "Your Biggest Fan", even though I think that I am, because I dont know your other fans, but for now, this will suffice,

Your Pretty Big Fan,
Ali

alarming
im sure everyone was so excited to see you that no one cared about tags. i had a security tag on this one pair of jeans for about a year, and everytime i went to walmart the alarm went off. it was terrible.

so worth it :)
I just wanted to let you know that making the 5 hour trip was SO VERY worth meeting you. I would have loved to take a creative writing class with you @ UNC Chapel Hill, but, alas- I'm in Florida and you are spending well deserved time with Sasha :) College students NEED more professors like you. You do not come across as "holier than thou" or act as if you know it all. You are such a humble, gracious, kind person and you deserve every good thing that you have ever achieved. You must wonder at times how your work influences people, as you have mentioned, writing can be very isolating. I just think you should know that you have made such an impact on more people than you could ever conceive imaginable. What you do is important to so many, so keep doing what you do: YOU ROCK AT IT!!

:)-Elizabeth

Quail Ridge
My family really enjoyed your talk Saturday. In fact, I wrote about it on my blog! Visit www.wilsontimes.com. Scroll to the bottom right of the home page and click on Lisa Boykin Batts, blog. (Check out my food columns while you're there. Last week's chicken pot pie is delicious.) Thanks for taking time to talk to all of us Saturday. It was a good memory for me, my husband and our daughter.
