We're at less than one week until Lock and Key's pub date, and I am trying to stay busy and distracted so as to hold off the pre-publication freakout as long as possible. Distracting activities so far have included eating sushi, downloading entirely too much music from iTunes and organizing my junk drawer. Stay tuned for continuing updates!

In other news, one of my cousins was visiting for the last couple of days. We were hanging out, the baby was asleep, and we decided we needed some chick flicks. We really wanted to see 27 Dresses, but since it is not on Pay Per View or out on DVD, we were forced to turn to my collection of movies. I was ticking through them, shouting out the options to her as she sat in the other room. Notting Hill? Seen it recently. How to Lose a Guy in Ten Days? Not a fave. Center Stage?

"What's that?" she said.

I froze. Stepped back from the cabinet and looked at her. "You've never seen Center Stage?" I asked. She shook her head. I shut the cabinet door. The choice was made. She'd never seen Bring It On, either, so we did a double header, and it was OH so much fun. But hello, how can you never have seen either of these movies? Are they not on TBS or Oxygen just about every day, at some point? I was thinking she was such anomaly, until one of my friends called and asked what we were doing. I told her and she said, "What are those movies about? I've never heard of them."

(I know what you're thinking. How can these people even BE my friends? The mind boggles.)

Finally, the fab Mitali Perkins sent me this link to her blog, where she's posted some excerpts from the Readergirlz chat I did a few weeks back. So if you missed it, check it out here. The Readergirlz are also doing a very cool event for Teen Lit Day, which is Thursday, where they are donating books to pediatric hospitals AND asking authors to release their books "into the wild" by leaving them in teen gathering places in their community. I am planning to participate, although, like my friend Sara Zarr, I am not entirely sure where teenagers hang out in Chapel Hill these days. But as I am popping in to speak at Chapel Hill High tomorrow, I may just call on someone there to drop a book for me. At any rate, a great cause. You can find out more on the Readergirlz site, or by clicking this icon:

Okay, back to my favorite distraction, who is now hollering for me from her crib....

Have a great day, everyone!

LOVE IT!
OK, so I just found your blog again. Every time I have read it in the past, I always thought you would fit into my circle of friends so well. Gilmore Girls obsession alone was enough. BUT.... Center Stage and Bring it On? You should have made a triple play and watched Save the Last Dance also :) LOVED today's post so much, and forwarded it to all of my friends. Now they are all going to buy your book next week!!!

I'm a first time mom also - my little girl will be 4 months old on Sunday! Just saw Jennifer Weiner speak on Sunday in Philly ~ hysterical of course, especially because of the pregnancy baby talk. Will you do a book signing at all? It must be difficult with the baby!

Re: LOVE IT!
Hello,
It's good you're TRYING to find ditractions.
Center Stage. A blissfully chicky flick. LOL! How COULD they not see that. It is playing very often on Oxyegen and TBS. Weird culturely deprived people...LOL!
I have also been downloading music on iTunes... Not for distractions, though. For writing. I've learned that listening to music while writing inspires you and blocks out noises around you...LOL! It's knid of nice.
Have a great day Sarah!
I can't wait to read "Lock and Key."

Hi Sarah, I had a question for you! This may be something you've covered in your journal in the past, so forgive me if you have. I was just wondering, after reading a few chapters of Lock and Key, I just wanted to say that I love your addition of having dogs as characters - first with Monkey (<3) and now with Dog In This Book (don't want to really put in ~spoilers~ here. They both are such lovable characters in thier own, have you owned dogs yourself? Are these dogs modeled after dogs you've known or owned in the past? As a huge dog lover myself, I really enjoyed the addition of these animals so I was just curious! :D

Me, neither, but I think that's partially because I'm not a huge T.V. watcher. ^_^

I think that's it. Those aren't the types of movies I would spend money to see and I just don't watch a lot of television to see them for free.

See I'm on the other end.. all of my friends talk about things and I have no idea what they are talking about, I've been asked if I am an alien. I usually tell them no. :) I spend my time thinking or reading/writing and doing acting/musical theatre stuff. I'm not big on tv or movies. Juno was good. You should watch it. It just came out. Also, Once (a movie) is really good to.

Have a really good day :)

Are you my twin?!!! I love acting and musical theatre and writing and reading and THINKING, too! Heehee.

Yeah, I'm the exact same way. Most of the time, my classmates talk about stuff in pop culture, I'm just like whaaaatt??? And then I start thinking about Broadway stuff, which I AM really current on!

Although, I do enjoy watching movies (if not always the current ones) and Grey's Anatomy. ^_^

I'm nearly done Lock and Key and I absolutely love it! I had a minor freak out last night when there was a little snippet of Bert and Kristy shopping in the mall.

Center Stage and Bring it On in one day...would make me want to skip all my classes and just stay glued to the tv! SUch good girl movies. I'm so excited for the release of Lock and Key on Tuesday! I feel like I've been waiting forever for it (it must seem even longer for you). I remember reading your first post here about the book and how excited I got and now its almost here. I'm going straight from my music class to go and get it (I've even googled the nearest barnes and noble to my school so I'm so ready!) Good luck with staying busy and try not to freak out too much, the book will be great!

A Note From Ali
That is so cool! I have a junk drawer too. Mine however, is hopeless!
I guess that sort of pre-release stress is normal so just keep with the distractions!
