Good morning.

So it appears that Lock and Key is popping up in a few bookstores here and there, leading loyal readers to ask---understandably---what happened to the release date being the 22nd? Truthfully, I am not sure. I was told the book wouldn't go on sale until then, but I guess if some stores are getting it early they are going ahead and putting it out. Which is not necessarily a bad thing. Honestly, I'm just happy people are excited it's coming out at all. But I'm going to keep going with the 22nd date, because that's what Allison the Super Publicist says, and I listen to her above all else.

In other, completely unrelated news, this weekend I met some hairless cats. Have you ever seen one of these things? They are VERY unusual looking. See?

Truth be told, I am not really a cat person, as my mom is allergic, so we never had them growing up. Cats totally know this, apparently, because anytime I am around a cat, it immediately comes over and winds around my legs, or jumps in my lap or, in the case of my friend Courtney's cat Loretta, attacks my foot for no reason. These hairless cats I met this weekend, though, sort of fascinated me. They were so unique looking, almost eerie, like they weren't cats at all, but some other kind of creature. I was still a little freaked out, though, I must admit, although whether it was just my general Cat Uneasiness or a new Hairless Cat Uneasiness, it was hard to say.

Finally, my baby is so close to crawling it's just crazy. She went from doing push ups to pulling herself forward with her hands to a combo of both, which looks a lot like she's doing The Worm. Before, she got around with a mix of pushing, pulling, and these wild one-handed rolls which always seemed to happen right on the edge of the carpet, leading to her bonking her head on the hardwood, ouch. But now, she's all about the straight line. Up on her toes, revving up, then down on her tummy, inching forward. Yesterday, she started moving one hand while on her hands and knees, which means there's only one more step and then it's ON. It's pretty amazing, I have to admit, watching the progress of all this. It makes you think about all the little steps involved in any big event, most of which we probably take for granted. Nothing ever really happens all at once: it just seems that way. All along, these little changes, tiny adjustments, mistakes and corrections, getting you closer, and then closer still, to the end result, whether it be a book coming out, or dealing with your fear of hairless animals, or simply learning to move all on your own.

That said, I think it's time to do some babyproofing. Stat!

Have a good day, everyone!

I pre-ordered Lock and Key through Chapters online, and they sent it to me last Wednesday... As Thursday was my last day of classes, I spent part of Thursday and most of Friday reading it. I really loved all the main characters, Sarah... they were so interesting to me. I don't want to spoil the book for anyone else, so I won't post too many specific comments, but thanks so much for once again producing such an intelligent, yet fun and interesting novel. =)

A Note From Ali
My Aunt and I googled hairless cats one day and thought that they were pretty weird too, the weirdest however, are the naked Mole rats. And not the cartoonized version. They seriously make your skin crawl!

Libba Bray's The Sweet Far Thing was released early, too. I actually bought a copy nearly a week before the release date because I spotted it at Barnes and Noble.

Why is the cat hairless?? Is it shaven or is it because for some reason the hair just can't grow? In any case, that cat looks very out-of-this-world-ish.

wow your baby can do push-ups, which is more than I can say for myself. ha-ha! hope you have your camera ready for her big first step!! that's very exciting!

Hmm...about the cats seeming to know who doesn't like them. I read somewhere that it had something to do with the eyes. Like, people who don't like cats narrow their eyes unconsciously, and in the wild that's a sign of friendship. So that cat goes to them.

I wish Lock and Key would come out early here! I want it so badly!

Augh, now I'm SO tempted to go out to all of the bookstores in the area and try to find Lock & Key so I can take it on vacation with me, rather than having to wait until I get back to read it... hmmm.

Hey Sarah,
You'd think you'd actually find out before anyone else did that your book was out in different places in different book stores already...LOL! At least it's comming out though.
I love cats! I also think that the hairless ones are quite odd looking. They are some of the nicest cats though! I have four cats and five dogs so I am definatly an animal person.
That's cool that Sasha is beginning to move around more. Babay proofing may be a good idea, like you said, LOL! She sounds like a little adventurer.
I hope you have a great day!
Much love!

Scary cat! *shudder*

I'm allergic to cats as well, but I have two of them. Allergy shots are a small price to pay for cute, furry companions.

Hi!
I work at a Barnes and Noble, and some titles aren't "strict on sale" so we'll put them out early to increase sales and fill displays. So some books (like Lock and Key) are known to be out on shelves well before the technical publishing date. I hope all that made sense.

My little sister is six years younger than me, and I can still remember when she first started crawling. At first, it is amittedly worm-like. But soon she was zooming around on all fours, making it near impossible to keep up with. I'm sure Sasha will soon be crawling just as fast!

Good luck with everything!

Lock and Key
I didn't really want to say anything...but a couple weeks ago, like April 2nd, I got Lock and Key from my library. And read it all.

I knew it was supposed to come out April 22nd, but I didn't have a CLUE as to why my library had a regular, non-ARC copy. It was so weird.

Needless to say, I read it in about a week. It was great, I LOVED it. =D

Hmm...Lock & Key is on our street date list at Waldenbooks. Which means we aren't allowed to sell it early. Not that we've gotten it, anyway, cause when we do on Thursday, I'm totally gonna read it in the backroom. LOL

I kept hearing that Lock and Key was popping up in books stores already so being curious, I took a trip to mine today and wouldn’t you know it, there it was. I’m only a few chapters in but I already LOVE it! Your books are always so fantastic. I love how you always weave in landmarks, characters, etc from your passed books. I get so excited haha. Alright, I’ll stop gushing now. ;)

Hi Sarah,
Just wanted to let you know that I have been reading your blog for a couple of weeks. I saw the comment someone left about getting Lock and Key at their library so I decided to look it up at my local library system. One library had it but it was already checked out and overdue. Weird. Anyway, I can't wait to get my copy of it! I LOVE reading your books. I might just see you at the Barnes and Noble in Alpharetta, GA in May.

Take care,
Lauren G.
