The Friday Five! 1. Did you hear that Project Runway is moving to Lifetime? This is VERY exciting news, if only because so many of my friends don't have Bravo (including everyone in Chapel Hill, just about) which makes it difficult to do my Tim Gunn impression without getting a lot of strange looks. I think PR will be HUGE on Lifetime, personally. They should put it on right after that new Carson Kressley show How To Look Good Naked, which is actually not as disturbing as you might think. 2. In related news, I read in the paper that Tim Gunn himself is going to be in Raleigh next week, appearing at a Liz Claiborne fashion show. How much do I want to go see him? PLEASE! But next week is nuts, with all this pre-pub stuff, and then there's the issue of the baby, who also loves Tim Gunn (who doesn't?) but cannot be counted on to be quiet and appreciative at a fashion show because she is, you know, only seven months old. Why couldn't Tim be coming in the week AFTER, when I might have had the chance to spy him at the airport? Or even share a plane? How great would that be? Why am I asking so many questions? I have no idea. Sorry! 3. Here's yet another thing I've realized about being a mom: Target is now mandatory. Used to be, I'd blow in there, grab a basket, and idly cruise the aisles, picking up some shampoo, maybe some mascara, a nice salad bowl, whatever. Now when I go, I'm on a mission. Diapers, wipes, baby food, formula, onesies, and that's just in the first five minutes. At least I know I am not alone. My husband ran into Target the other day to buy something mid-morning and was blown away by the number of moms there. "You look out in the parking lot, and it's like an invasion!" he said. "Just mom after mom after mom after mom...." We are a force. Prepare to be reckoned with. 4. In related news, I have also become one of those people who smiles at pregnant women. When I was pregnant, this completely puzzled me. I'd be out, waddling along, and pass some woman, who would give me this sweet, knowing smile, and I'd immediately think, "Oh, crap, I must have spilled something on my pants I can't see because my belly is in the way," or, in the later, very-uncomfortable-stare-or-smile-at-me-a 5. Finally, I was watching Top Chef this week when they mentioned deviled eggs. Yes: it IS that time of year again. I haven't made eggs in ages, but it's kind of a tradition that I whip some up to commemorate 1) the beginning of spring/summer and 2) the release of a new book. Considering both are happening at the same time this year, I think it's almost imperative that I do the egg thing. There's just something great about that first trip to the store to buy eggs, mayo, mustard, relish and paprika. I always get the large sizes (except for the eggs, of course) so that I have plenty on hand the next time the urge strikes. It's been a long, cold winter. Okay, this is NC. So maybe not. But still: it's deviled egg time! |

I was just reading Keeping the Moon (seriously, like 20 minutes ago in Physics class) and Morgan always makes deviled eggs when she's upset. It's interesting to see where you got it from. Something you and one of your characters have in common. I love it! |

I am a HUGE fan, and was super confused, because I know that your book isn't released until the 22nd. I still have absolutely NO idea how my school got a copy so early, but I jumped at it and checked it out. It is my new favorite book of yours, and one of my favorite books EVER. I can identify with Ruby, Cora, and Nate SO much. My mom is an alcoholic who used to physically and verbally abuse me and my sisters. I was in Ruby's position for awhile, with my older sister taking the heat from my mom, and me hiding behind, until my sister moved in with our dad after our parents' divorce, and suddenly I was Cora, reaching back the hand to my younger sisters. I can identify with Nate, never knowing what exactly will set your parent off, what will be that little thing that sends them over the edge, and sets you flying into the danger zone. It took me a long time to work up the courage to tell anyone about it, and to this day I have problems with relying and asking for help from people because of my mom. This book speaks so much to me. I got it yesterday and finished in a two hour sitting. I love it so much and am going to buy a copy for me and my older sister as soon as it legally comes out. I don't know how or why my school's library was blessed with a copy early, but I have never been more happy. Thank you so much Sarah. It would be great to hear from you. I know you're super busy, but if you ever want to, that would be amazing. And seriously, thank you so very very much for publishing this book. It means so much. |

I checked my library website and there are already 75 requests for the book (you're popular!), so I guess I'll be buying it ... luckily I saved some birthday money from 6 months ago for this very occasion! Anyways, I'm excited to read it. Reading you blog about making devilled eggs every year is like another sign of spring for me now! I hope you enjoy them! I hope all is well, |

Nice idea about the deviled eggs... I have been making a lot of homemade potatoe salad and it's been very springish and fun, but deviled eggs are a whole different story, I like bacon bits in mine. :) -Angel |

I know that at the end I'm supposed to be relieved for Caitlin. I know I'm supposed to be horrified by the fact that Rogerson beats her. But for some reason I don't. I feel sorry she can't be with him anymore. I feel like he needs Caitlin and that he'll be lost without her. I really don't feel like he's the bad guy, just misunderstood. I feel like I'm a part of him now. I never wanted the book to end. To this moment I want it to continue. I know the story is about Caitlin but I just wanted to compliment you on developing Rogerson's character. I feel like he's real. It was an amazing book. One of your best in my mind -ss |

The first time was after I got my ticket with my sister and mom.We turned around and my mom screamed,"LOOK GIRLS!THERE'S TIM GUNN!" He was standing about 10 feet away from us and he walked over and introduced himself. We also shook hands and got a picture with him. Then after the fashion show, there was a raffle, free food, free non acoholic beverages, a bag like thing, and if you spent $100+ on Liz Claiborne you got a free picture with him and a signed book.So of course we spent that much ahead of time, showed a lady the receipt, and got in a short line. We talked, got a book and picture, and my mom gave him her card (they were talking about if they predict who wins and how my mom normally predicts right. He suggested he called her to see who she think will win!). It was a blast and I'm sorry you missed it! |
