Oh, I don't even want to talk about it.

*sigh*

So, yes, my Tarheels went down in flames on Saturday night. The game was literally painful to watch. Despite all my various mojo workings---putting the baby in her UNC gear, like we did for every game this year, having the same people over we've had for other big games we've won---it just wasn't going to happen. I was still so bummed out at the crack of dawn when the baby woke up that I told her first thing. She did not seem nearly as affected. Ah, to be young. Oh, well. There's always next year.

On a brighter note, thanks to EVERYONE who came out on a very early and dreary Saturday morning for my reading at UNC. I had a great crowd, great questions, and even though I was REALLY nervous I don't think it was totally obvious. Except maybe for when my microphone suddenly started squealing with feedback and I couldn't get it to stop and had to take it off and put it on the floor, where it continued to make noises until someone came and took it away. Yikes! All in all, though, I cannot think of a better way to start all this publicity for Lock and Key. There was even a really nice story in the Chapel Hill Herald on the front page (!) along with a really big picture of me. I didn't even look that weird, which is rare because we all know I do not photograph well. I was actually thinking, hey, this isn't so bad, and then my husband---helpful as always---pointed out the headline directly to the left of my face, which was MEETINGS EXPLORE HUMAN, SEX TRAFFIC. It almost looked like a caption to my picture. Sigh. It got your attention, at any rate.

Speaking of Lock and Key, don't forget about my first ever contest! (You can find out how to enter by following that link.) For those of you who asked, we are only allowing one entry per person: any more than that from any one address will be deleted. Good Luck!

And finally, a book recommendation. I have been a HUGE fan of Jennifer Weiner ever since her first book, Good in Bed. And now, tomorrow, her newest book, a sequel to Good in Bed, is finally going to be released. It's called Certain Girls, and I can tell you that it is FABULOUS because I got an early copy, and read it immediately, pretty much ignoring all else in order to do so. (Okay, not ALL else. My baby was still getting everything she needed. But the laundry and cooking took a hit, for sure.) It's like getting to spend a long day with an old friend, and when it's over you're so sad to see them go. Seriously. I think I may have to read it again just to hold me over until her next one.

Okay, time to start the week in earnest. And, um, get that laundry and cooking. Maybe.

Have a great day, everyone!

Yes, you were totally fine at the reading, though I must've missed the whole feedback thing since I showed up kinda late, about halfway through your reading of Lock and Key. I got lost on the UNC Campus, and then I felt so stupid afterward when Melissa pointed me in the direction of where my car was parked and it was literally like ONE path from the parking lot to the building where your reading was. I really should've looked more carefully at that campus map. But anyway, it was so great to meet you! I put up the pic of you and me on both my regular and the Book Chic myspaces, if you want to check it out. And you look amazing in it! I'm the one who doesn't photograph well.

Despite your loss Saturday night, I hope you have a great week!

Hi I just wanted to say that I'm a huge fan of yours, and have been reading your blog for awhile but I don't think I've commented before. I work at a bookstore (Chapters, in Canada), and your book The Truth About Forever has been my staff pick for awhile (I wanted it to be This Lullabye which is one of my favourite books ever but we hardly ever have enough copies *sadface*). Anyway, I've been recommending your books to everyone who stops by the teenlit section and letting them know about Lock and Key coming up! :D Just trying to spread the love haha. I'm 23, but I still love reading teenlit books, they're just so fun and great to escape to - especially in the spring/summer - and yours are definitely one of the best I've come across. Anyway good luck with everything and I can't wait for the new book :D

Not saying anything on the Tarheels loss since I'm a Duke fan but I have a question. When you write the e-mail do we have to write anything in the text box? I know you don't personally respond to comments so I was hoping in your next post you can answer that for me. I sent my e-mail in already but I wanted to make sure I did it right because I had been thinking about it after the fact. Thank you for your time!

I was looking forward to attending your campus reading ever since you first announced it on your journal. Then I suddenly got really sick on Thursday and had to stay in bed the rest of the weekend. I am so sad I had to miss it! I'm also so sad about our Heels. Always depressing the day back to classes after a big loss.

Sarah, I left a message on your facebook but I just wanted to say again how much I enjoyed your reading and how honored I am that you remembered me!

the microphone howling wasn't that bad, I promise. I have heard much MUCH worse. And you handled it beautifully.

Loving Lock and Key
Being in Australia, I can't really make the trip to any readings, but that's alright since I have my own copy of 'Lock and Key.'
Went shopping over the weekend and did a happy dance (and a little yelp, which the person standing next to me found slightly odd and moved away) when I walked pasted YA and there top shelf was Lock and Key. I didn't even realise it was out this early.
Have spent the past couple of days trying to avoid the phone/work/washing machine to get it done, about half way through and I'm loving it, LOVING IT. In fact need to get off line now so I can finish the rest. (Especially love little 'cameos' from previous books are mentioned, it's like a secret club that only people who have read all books would get ;)

Hello!
Hey Sarah,
Ever so sorry to hear the UNC lost. There will be other game to win, but still, it sucks! I know how you feel, seriously. The U of A, Unitversity of Arizona, has lost like 3 games in a row. Once they lost one of there big games to Cali. Which result in a ton of die hard friend wallowing over it and many people wallowed for monthes. Perfect for Cali, the exact opposite for us...LOL! Oh, well, life moves on, huh?
You do so photograph well! I love the photo of you on the "About the Author" part of Just Listen.

Sarah: Your team's loss was hard to watch! Thank you for writing a new book. Just for your information, there are some women out there who enjoy your books as well. I turned the big 40 this past December. I have read all of your books and will continue to do so.

Thanks,

A big fan from the Judy Blume 1970's generation

Just to let you know, I do (as well as a lot of people im sure) really enjoy and look forward to reading your blog. As far as your tarheels... I live kind of bordering Kansas and Missouri so even though I wasn't rooting for either it was still a good game right? AND at least NC lost to the national champs, if you put it in that perspective it sounds a little bit better...
