The Friday Five!

1.
2. Yes, that is the man himself, last night, one of only three shots I got before my camera battery died. Still, you have to appreciate a man who can wear a sparkling jacket like that. Impressive! The concert was SO MUCH FUN, although I am paying this morning because I went to bed VERY late and still had to get up at 5am, because six and a half month old babies don't really care if you were out at Barry Manilow till all hours, they just want to be fed when they are hungry. We did have a blast, though, and even got moved to better seats by basically making a spectacle of ourselves and begging when someone from Team Barry came around with tickets. (Okay, I was the spectacle. Dana and Courtney just sat there, looking embarrassed.) The only thing I regret is not getting a T-shirt, but the line at the booth was REALLY long by the end of the show and by then I was already thinking about how I was going to have to get up in about six hours. So oh, well. But who needs a T-shirt when I have pictures?
3. In other news, my Tarheels won last night, advancing to the Elite Eight. My friend Courtney's husband, who is a State Fan, graciously agreed to text us scores and updates, so we knew what was happening even while losing ourselves in the magic of Manilow. Now, we play Louisville on Saturday, and hopefully I will be able to give it my FULL attention.
4. Thanks to everyone who came out for the live chat I did yesterday at Readergirlz. I was kind of nervous, and then the server froze up so I couldn't answer questions for a few minutes, which almost gave me a nervous breakdown, but it all worked out in the end. I was typing as fast as I could, but there were still a lot of questions I didn't get to. So if you posted one and I didn't get to it, I'm sorry. Maybe next time...
5. Finally, the Ben Lee song I spent pretty much all of last year listening to, "We're All In This Together," is now in a Kohl's commercial. Which is kind of weird. I feel like it was the soundtrack of my life for so long, and I think I got a little proprietary about it. Which is just crazy, I know. But isn't it weird when a song means so much to you, and then you have to see it in a different way? Then again, it is a great song, and this can only mean more people will hear it. Music is meant to be shared! Just ask Barry Manilow.

Have a good weekend, everyone!

During the fall last year, a cell phone company was using that Ben Lee song in their commercials in Canada. It renewed my interest in Ben Lee's music, so that was good at any rate. (It also reminds me of a song from High School Musical, which is maybe unfortunate.)

i've known and loved Feist's music for awhile now so it was odd to hear her music being played in that ipod commercial this past fall. It's good exposure though, i guess. In the midst of Rihann and Miley Cyrus we get to hear Feist, Ben Lee, Colbie Caillat, and others on mainstream radio, which isn't a bad thing.

also i'd just like to point out how up-beat your post is today. it's dreary and rainy here at Penn State (the next best college to UNC of course, i mean what other school than Penn State can have Bill Clinton, Barack Obama and Ann Coulter in the span of a week) so its a nice contrast :)

It sounds like you enjoyed the concert.

I'm glad that your chat went well. Thanks for being a part of readergirlz!

I know what you mean about song ownership. I'm that way about anything that I liked - song, book, movie, TV show - that was relatively unknown, then became popular. It's weird.

Strangely, you are the second Sarah from North Carolina I know who has an unnatural (well, you know) love for Barry Manilow.

Maybe there's something in the water!

It could go the other way, as well. I love the song 'Hold on Tight' by ELO, and listen to it all the time now, but never before knew it existed until it was on that car commercial.

I feel the same way about the song, I''m Yours by Jason Mraz. My husband made me listen to it a year or so ago and now it's on everyone's myspace page. Oh well - you've got to let go sometime! In related news, have you heard Mandy Moore's song Gardenia? It is amazing.

Have a good weekend - I am off to the Sweet Sixteen in Houston! Go Horns!

Agh, I know what you mean about music! It seems like all the time, I'll find a song that I really love, that none of my friends has heard, and two weeks later, it's played during a show or on a commercial. It's sort of disheartening, because once in a while you like to keep good songs your little secret, selfish as it may seem. There's just something lost when you hear a song you connect with played for all the world to hear.

I know what you mean. I had this song on my iPod that I really loved and it came on the radio... felt like it got stolen from me... another song i love that everyone else loves and i hate that. when I played it on my iPod speakers I didn't want to "share it" with the rest of the world... so i put on me earbuds...:)

I kind of hate when songs I've liked for years go mainstream. First it was Hey There Delilah by the Plain White T's...then Boston by Augustana...now We're All In This Together. Boo :P

Songs we love but hate to share
I saw Ingrid Michaelson and Joshua Radin in concert and immediately bought Ingrid's album and proceeded to fall in love w/her all over again. So what do they do? Put her song on an Old Navy commercial about sweaters. ARGH! I'm glad she's getting the publicity she deserves, but it's still weird. Also, everyone close to me knows my unnatural love of Valley Girl and now that "Melt with You" is on the lamest Taco Bell commercial ever I want to cry every time!! But on a side note-heard a mellow, female version of it on a commercial and thought it was very well done!!

commercials.
I know it may be selfish, but it irks me when one of my favorite songs is used in a commercial. I have been listening to a band named the weepies for years and around christmas old navy started using about three different songs of theirs. Sorry, i just needed to share that.

I felt that way about Allison Krause/Robert Plants song in the JcPenny commercial. Come on, I love that song! Why must it go so mainstream?!
