Now, I know what you might be thinking: that's not so many dates. Especially since for Just Listen, I was on a ten day book tour, with LOTS of different events. But things are (clearly) different this time around, and the truth is I just can't bear to be away from my baby that much. At the same time, though, I really wanted to get out and promote the book, so my fab publicist at Penguin, Allison, worked up this very nice and not-too-scary schedule for me. But if I'm not coming anywhere near you, never fear. We're going to be doing a lot of fun online promotion---details to come!---so it's my hope that you'll still be able to get a sort-of-like-a-reading experience. And there's going to be a sweepstakes! With the chance to win a necklace and signed books!

I think I am overdoing it with the exclamation points! I'm sorry!

In other news, is anyone else watching High School Confidential on the WE channel? (I know someone else is, as I got a comment about it the other day. So besides the two of us: anyone else?) I have to say it's pretty compelling. They followed a group of girls for four years, from when they were freshmen to seniors, so you really get to see how they changed and what happened to them. The only quibble I have is that I kind of wish, instead of showing one or two girls per episode, and their entire four years, that they stretched it out a bit, so we got a greater sense of the time passing. Does that make sense? Probably not. I have a cold, so I feel like I'm underwater, shouting up to the surface.

Speaking of which, I took this picture by accident the other day, hitting the camera on my computer with my elbow. I was about to delete it when it occurred to me that it kind of captures exactly how I feel I DO look, these days. Kind of askew, fragmented, but with a lovely background:

Have a good day, everyone!

Oh my god! This was almost as good as new Office Promo! DECATUR GA! I am SO there! Finally, something close to me. I was ready to haul it up to Alpharetta, but then I saw Decatur, and its like, right here!!!
YES!

Okay, I just relooked, and you have Alpharetta and Decatur - same day? Only 2.5 hours apart.
Depending on how long the events last, it really is very iffy to get to Decatur. Like, really iffy. It would be a tight schedule, and pray for a good traffic day.
My mom goes nearly that route every day (she starts a little further up, but doesn't go to Decatur, thats a little further down), and using back streets at that time, it takes her over an hour.

So, I would say, be very careful with scheduling, and pray for good traffic that day!

I'm watching High School Confidential! I watched the first one, and the second is waiting for me on DVR because I, too, have a baby girl. She's 4 months old and doesn't allow me too much time for TV in the evenings.

I don't mind that it's one or two girls per episode, but the thing I don't like is that they don't give further updates at the end, saying what the girls have been doing for the two years since they stopped filming. I need something like an epilogue.

By the way, I can't wait for Lock & Key! My husband travels to NC (from IL) for work periodically, so I'm hoping he'll have to go in mid-April so I can come with him and go to your signing! That's wishful thinkging, but it could totally happen.

I am going to try and get to the one in Durham or Raleigh (it all depends on my ability to get a ride, since I am car-less).

But I will be at your reading on April 5th at Hanes Art Center, so at least I will get to hear you at some point this semester!

I was browsing the Politics and Prose website a couple days ago and I thought it was too good to be true when I saw your name under the appearances section! I wasn't in close range to any of your Just Listen events so I'm excited to finally go to one. :)

I watch High School Confidential! It's awesome! They were advertising it as more real than High School Musical. It's a great show. I also like the true crime shows on A&E, like City Confidential and American Justice - so much better than Law & Order or CSI!

I LOVE High School Confidential. It's actually really interesting for me because the years they filmed the show were the years that I was in high school. I completely agree with you on the set up though. I think each year should last about two episodes, then they'd have an 8 part series, etc. It's just SO compelling to see how those girls have changed and matured over those four years in high school. It kind of makes you wish you had a camera on you to record how much better you've become haha. I completely agree though - AN AMAZING SHOW.

if i had WE i'd be watching. :(

you mentioned the return of jezebel james the other day - have you gotten a chance to watch it all? i was kind of disappointed - sarah comes off as a dumbed-down version of lorelai and there were too many gilmore-esque elements for me to feel like i was watching something new. there was really only one moment in the second episodes when i thought, "AH, amy's writing is back!" and as quickly as i thought it, it ended.
*sigh*

I loved the first episode of "High School Confidential," especially, and the ending of the second episode made me want to cry for the little sister of the girl who was featured. Definitely worth recording. But you're right -- I wish the story line involving the girl who had a brain tumor would have stretched out over more than one episode, to get a greater sense of the time passing.

I was dead set on coming to one of your Georgia appearances since its only 3 hours away from me, then I realized I have finals that week. Low and behold I have a final that day at 5pm. :( This kid really wants to go to a signing so maybe the 5 hour drive to North Carolina later in May will have to do. :)

I have two episodes of "HS Confidential" DVR'd waiting for a day or night off to watch. I'm v. interested in how they followed the girls and the reactions of the girls throughout the process. I"m a sucker for long stories that show how the character ends up and school stuff is always interesting. But I would like WE to go back after a couple of years and do something that shows how the choices these girls made in High School affected their lives in college or beyond. Now that would be compelling "reality" tv.

I watch High School Confidential. I graduated high school early, back in November. I'm still going through the ceremony this spring with the cap and gown and getting my diploma. It's weird watching that show because I can relate to the girls, but at the same time I can't. It's hard to explain.

One thing that frustrated me was that at the end of one of the shows, a girl said that at the end of high school 'every girl has lost her innocence,' and that was the difference between being a freshman and senior. I strongly disagreed with that. Some of us are still holding on. Quotes like that make mothers like mine worry about world and their daughters more than they should.

Just want to say, thanks!
I just wanted to let you know..

Im 20 years old now. When I was in 9th grade my best friend Jessica Harmon told me about your books. Told me that I had to read them. I started with 'Dreamland'. Which I must say is one of my favorites. I've read it about 3 times so far, haha.

After reading 'Someone like you'. I loved the book so much and the character Halley that I said I would name my first girl after her. LOL.

That was about 4 or 5 years ago. I just had a baby 6 months ago. A little girl. My husband knew how much I loved the name so we agreed that I got to keep the name but he got to pick how we would spell it. We came up with 'Haylee'.
On my Myspace under 'books' the only answer I give is 'Anything By Sarah Dessen'.

I want to say thank you so much. Keep up the wonderful work!

Nicole

Hey Sarah,
I love the photo!!! It seems, with many people, that pictures taken my accident are some of the best ones you'll ever take.
About "High School Confidential," yes, I've been watching it every week! I like it. I get what you mean about stretching it out. I guess the series isn't goign to be that long then...LOL!
I'm ever so sorry you have gotten a cold!!! I hate colds! They make you feel like crap!!! It always makes you feel as though you have corks in your nose and ears! It also makes me feel like I have a stone in my throat... Not the greatest feeling in the world is it?
I hope all is well!
Get better!
Much love!

Hello :)
Hello!
I read your blog everyday, but have never actually commented. I just wanted to thank you so much for writing these amazing stories. I've been through some hard things these past couple years and your books have given me an outlet to escape, and put my energy into. I can totally relate to what you're saying. After a hard day at pointe class, I come home and reread a chapter or two out of one of your books. They are amazing.

Good luck on your tour, maybe on your next one you could considering coming to Nebraska? Or Iowa and Kansas and Colorado are close too!

Best of Wishes to you and Sasha (Pretty name!)

Elizabeth

Hi Sarah! I've never left a comment here before, but I read your journal regularly.I'm from India and I'm a huge fan of your books. I'm going to be in America on vacation in April, but unfortunately I seem to be missing you everywhere just by a few days! I get to DC right after you leave, and arrive in Georgia few days after you're done:( I can't believe I'm so close and I still can't get to see you.
But anyways, good luck with everything!
