Well, it's Monday, 11:15, and I feel like I've been running around for hours. Which, actually....I have. Huh.

I just left Whole Foods, where I had another d'oh! moment. A few weeks back, they were giving away these great re-usable shopping bags, to encourage less use of the plastic and paper variety. They even gave you a little sticker to put somewhere to remind you to bring it when you went out shopping. I put the bag in my car, the sticker on my car window and...I forget it EVERY SINGLE TIME. I know it's a good thing, a good cause, but MAN I really don't need something else to fail at everyday, you know? I have to come up with a new, better reminder system. I guess I'll do that around the time I stop obsessing, finally get caught up on laundry and answer all my website email. Sigh.

In other news, I was alerted by loyal reader Kelsey that you can now find an audio clip of me talking about Lock and Key and reading an excerpt here. (It's also available on the Barnes and Noble page for Lock and Key, way down in the right hand corner, under OF INTEREST.) Kelsey also asked me to give another mention to Dreamland, the message boards for my books, which you can join to chat with other readers. In the also-failing department, I realized this weekend that I was SUPPOSED to be answering questions under the Ask Sarah! topic, but with all the madness of motherhood, kind of, um, didn't. So I will try my best to get to a few of them later this week.

Finally, how excited am I that it looks like the writer's strike is ending? New episodes of The Office may be just what I need to turn my life around.

*thinks*

Okay, well they can't make it MORE complicated, at any rate, right?

have a good day, everyone!

I bought a big pile of those bags...the grocery stores in the Northwest sell them for $1 each. They're SO MUCH better than the plastic bags! It takes a while to remember to bring them, but it feels SO good when you do!

Maybe a re-usable bag that can be carried in your purse is a better idea? I have a few from baggu (baggubag.com - their website seems to be down right now)... The bags fold up and fit into a little case that comes with each bag. I always have them when I need them. :)

Haha. So I wasn't sure if I was going to comment but when I saw that one above me I just had to! I've been reading your blog for over a year and I've never heard your voice before. It was so different than I thought it would be and you do have an accent! Which I suppose I should have assumed as you live in the South and all. And yay for reusable bags! I'm from San Fran and plastic bags have been outlawed here. It's a great idea!

I feel so much better - I'm the EXACT same way with my bags! I figure eventually we will remember. When I can, I make myself walk out and get the bags, as a punishment, hoping my brain will catch on soon! :)

So I was wondering how you get questions answered by you???
If this is the way then my question is... Do you think you will still be teaching at UNC at Chapel Hill in 4 years???

Thanks much!

hmm. it says above me fnl got canceled, but i can't find any definitive evidence of that online. according to wikipedia, though, the 15 episode season 2 dvd will be released in late april (around the same time as lock & key, actually), which, they say, does not bode too well for its return. but still, no official cancellation anyway.

and speaking of lock & key, i loved both those excerpts and i am super excited for the book to come out! other people mentioned above how surprised they were about your southern accent, but i'm not totally sure why. i guess maybe because people always hear books in their own voices rather than anyone else's. at any rate, i love your accent. i think it's cute and it flows nicely. there's a lady in one of my college classes with a southern accent that sounds like such an affection. it's almost as though she's trying too hard to stand out against all of us minnesotans (who, i'm told, do have an accent, although it's nothing like the people in the movie fargo. and for that matter, fargo isn't even in mn, it's in north dakota). on you, though, that accent sounds natural and adorable. :-)

I loved the chapter from your new book. I also love all your other books and have read them many times. I have to say, though, being a Jehovah's Witness I didn't appreciate the slam. We don't peddle anything at people's doors. All we try to do is offer comfort from the Bible to people who aren't happy with current events in the world. I would also like to say that no matter who you are it's rude to slam a door in anyones face. I really hope that these aren't your true view of Jehovah's Witnesses because if they are I would urge you to talk to them next time they come to your door and really find out their views and why they are there. Thanks.

Friday Night Lights-urgent!
Hi Sarah,
First off, I'd like to comment that you are an amazing writer, you're books are by far the best I have ever read. I've read your blog a couple of times and noticed that you like Friday Night Lights as much as I do. If you haven't already heard, NBC is thinking of canceling it by the end of this week or very soon. Since you have a way to inform lots of people (your blog), tell everyone you know to write a letter or email to NBC, explaining that you don't want FNL canceled. (info can be found on nbc.com) Again, thank you for writing such wonderful books and here's hoping to more of beautiful Riggins,
Lisey

About Friday Night Lights, I just saw that it has not been cancelled, it has just not been renewed for another season yet. Hopefully it will! :-)

And a great big YAY for The Office! I've really been missing it these past few months. I need more Jim Halpert in my life.

That excerpt in the audio was AMAZING!!! I read the excerpt online and I liked it too, but this one really got my attention. Ruby seems different from a lot of your characters, and I'm eager to read her story. She seems to have some of Remy's traits, in terms of cynicalness, in many ways the "adult" in her relationship with her mother, but she also seems incredibly different. I love how you really built the story with the description, and the characters seemed so REAL!!! Have your books been on tape yet? If not, you should really think about recording them. Believe it or not, it was fantastically AMAZING to hear you read it. It brought this amazing personalness to everything.

I was already really excited about Lock and Key before, but I am really, really, REALLY excited now! It sounds so good already...and I already love Ruby! I have a really good sense of who she is. I just can't wait!!!

I can't wait to read the book! You read aloud very well, by the way. You have a very pleasant speaking voice. And like many people have said, it is different than I'd imagined. I don't know why.

I hope The Office comes back soon, too. :-D I don't watch FNL, but I know how much you love it and hope it will stay on for you!
