The Friday Five! (Special super-short 7:20 am edition!)

1. Yep, it's 7:20 and 21 degrees here. I've been up since 5:45. Good morning!

2. Our Gordon Ramsay fixation continues: we're watching Hell's Kitchen now, on the Fox Reality Network. Did YOU know there was an entire network for reality shows? Isn't this a sign of the apocalypse? Anyway, Hell's Kitchen is interesting and all, but I like Kitchen Nightmares better. On that show, Ramsay is still a jerk, but he has nice moments, and he's trying to help people. On Hell's Kitchen, they've set him up to be way too Simon Cowell-esque, all nasty comments and crushing dreams. Isn't that getting a little old, now?

3. Yesterday, Sasha laughed out loud for the first time. I was holding her, my husband was making faces, and when she started to giggle I busted out laughing as well. I know there's a lot of bad things happening in the world, every single moment of every single day. But hearing a baby laugh can make up for a lot.

4. Project Runway now has me officially in its thrall. Everyone I talk to hates Christian, but not me. Yes, he can be annoying, and sure, he's a bit of a diva. But he's got the talent to back it up, and he's in it to win it. The only hard part, for me, is managing to avoid all spoilers on Thursday until I can get to the episode I Tivo on Wednesday night. And, um, convincing my husband to let me watch it instead of Hell's Kitchen. But you know what? I make it work. (Couldn't resist, sorry!)

5. I realized the other day, while browsing CNN and seeing yet ANOTHER Britney's-a-mess-story, that I'd almost forgotten what it was like to not see her on the news ticker for one thing or another on a regular basis. But remember, back in the day, before all the drama? Yeah. Me too. Okay: one more time!

Aw, I really like Hell's Kitchen. I haven't seen Kitchen Nightmares, but Gordon can be really nice on HK. Last season (I think it was), there was a woman competing who was a Waffle House line cook, and all the other cooks/chefs competing were jerks to her because she didn't know "fine dining." She kept saving her team's butt, though, over and over again. She did get eliminated eventually, but really late in the show. But because he really did see talent in her, Gordon paid for her to go to culinary school and told her to come back so he could give her a restaurant. I'd been rooting for her the whole time, but the decision he made was totally sweet and nice and necessary. Watch it a bit more; I think you'll like it more as the show goes on.

you are totally right about a baby's laugh. every time my brother gets my nephew to giggle my heart melts. not having much tolerence for other people's waste excretions, my brother and sister-in-law can hardly ever get me to change his diaper. litte do they realize if they made him laugh first i'd probably do it gladly. seriously. babies are very powerful beings.

that video is such a blast from the past. i was thirteen when it came out and was watching trl religiously every day. now i'm twenty-two and watching project runway and gossip girl is all the tv i can handle in a week. time flies. (i don't hate christian on project runway at all, but i don't especially like him either. i think he makes things interesting on the show, but no way would i ever pick him to win. then again, i'm kind of torn on who i would pick, so there you go.)

Hi Sarah :-) I'm new to your blog--but just gotta say that I love Christian! He does kind of annoy me sometimes, and I can see how he annoys the other designers, but I love his work. I want to see him in the finals!

I LOVE Christian!!! He's so fun to watch! I don't know how to describe it - sure, he's got ego that can be a bit excessive at times, but he's just this little ball of fashion energy and I love his commentary on situations. I just can't understand why people don't like him.

at the beginning of this season of PR, I thought that I would absolutely hate Christian, but he has turned out to be one of my favorite designers on the show. He is definitely the funniest: "They're going to die when they see this outfit. Or die because of it."

I like Gillian too. I think she's so cute and her clothes are really great (except for the most recent episode, yikes!).

I never get tired of seeing that video and I see it all the time when I play my singstar game. It's a good video.

And I miss the old Brittany. :( She had such potential and she was a really good singer. I guess that's what happens when you get fame at such a vulnerable age. It's too bad. I hope she gets help. It's just sad. :(

And I'm glad Sasha laughed! =] I love hearing people laugh, it brightens up your day!

hah, gotta love Tim Gunn. i've been hooked on Project Runway since the first season and it definitely falls under the "betcha can't eat just one category." TRUST ME. :p now that you've started, it'll be hard to quit watching! ..as i've said before, i for one back Christian 100%. sure he has his whiney moments (as we saw in this past ep :D) but the fact remains that he's a REALLY good designer! and definitely good enough for top three if he keeps up this momentum.

Sarah, my best friend and I both absolutely LOVE Christian on Project Runway. I think he's pretty much both one of our absolute favorites. Usually people with ego bother me, but I find him quite amusing and his designs are so unique and innovative I think it'd be impossible to hate him. He also just says some of the best things. "Are we going somewhere fabulous?" Haha he's just a total riot.

I know exactly what you mean about Britney! I still remember back when she used to be so young and innocent and cute... I actually liked her better back then, and now I just can't help but wonder what happened!

And I have a story I want to tell you... not too long ago, we had to write a couple short stories for English, and I just could NOT think of anything to write about... my creative juices have probably been flowing backwards lately, my writing has been so bad. But I was just thinking about how much I can't wait for Lock and Key to come out, and I got this great story idea. It's awesome... all about Lock and Key. Although I don't mention the title in the story. =D

Haha, but on another note- I'm in love with Christian also. As well as the entire show, I'm addicted and I've come to the conclusion that there is NO CURE. I'm a junior at a highschool in Greensboro, NC and I'm thinking about applying to Chapel Hill to actually take your creative writing class, any suggestions? I'm hoping to get up to see the campus soon.
