Yesterday, I bundled Sasha up and took her for her very first trip to the UNC campus. It had been ages since I'd been down there, and it was really nice to go back, although I have to say this: nothing makes you feel older than pushing a baby stroller on a college campus. I kept passing tiny girls in leggings and cute coats with their backpacks and perfect skin, and there I was with my diaper bag, and my Snap n' Go and...of course, my beautiful baby, who makes it all worthwhile. We hit the student stores, where we stocked up on UNC apparel (onesie, T-shirt, jacket) and then went to the English Department, where we bumped into a bunch of people I hadn't seen in ages. It was a lot of fun, and made me miss my teaching days. A little bit, anyway.

In other news, Idol started last night and...I didn't even KNOW until my cousin called, surprised to find me not watching it. You'd think that with the lack of original programming these days I'd jump on the bandwagon again, but honestly, I just can't. I flipped over for about two minutes, just in time to see someone who had just gotten rejected going off about Simon and repeatedly flipping off the cameras (it was blurred, but you got the idea. Again, and again, and again). And I just thought, nope. Maybe I'll come back in for Hollywood week, but I don't know. For now, I have too many Gordon Ramsay shows to watch, and one last Brothers and Sisters, and, even better, a HUGE stack of books I might actually get to start reading now that my baby is going to bed before I am. It's a whole new world, and I don't want to spend any my time there watching people's dreams getting crushed.

Finally, I've been hearing more and more from people who have gotten early copies of Lock and Key at various conferences, which is very exciting. As well as a little nerve-wracking. April seemed like a LONG time away back in the fall, when the galleys first came out, but now it's coming at me faster and faster. This is the eighth time I'll be doing this book release thing, so you think it would be No Big Deal, but it's not. It's still great and huge and terrifying, all at once. The nice thing is that whereas once, it was ALL I could think about, now I just don't have that option. I can only freak out in small, contained increments, which is really much better. Of course, I'm still freaking out. But it's more manageable.

Okay, I have a few more minutes before she's up from the morning nap and the real day begins. Gotta go!

have a good day, everyone!

I've never seen an episode of American Idol. I'm in the minority here, I know. But the audition process seems so contrived and cruel: Let's encourage people to act a fool and make fun of them for ratings.

I'm not watching American Idol. I've watched it since the start of season two, but this year I just feel like it's too much of a commitment. Yeah, there's nothing else on, but I've been enjoying my (mostly) TV-less evenings. Plus I know that next month Jericho (woohoo!), Big Brother, and Survivor are starting back up, and that's 5 hours of TV right there. I don't know how I'd juggle that with 4 hours of American Idol.

Might pick it up later in the season but we'll see.

As a frequent babysitter, I know how hard it can be for parents to leave their baby for the first time, yet I also know they are so happy to have the freedom to go out be adults, and know their baby is safe at home. Sarah, I hope you find a trusted family member or friend so you can go see Barry Manilow. I am also a music lover and I hate the feeling of knowing I missed a great concert.

Lock & Key
I am so excited about Lock & Key! Despite how close April seems, how it's bound to creep up on me when I least expect it, I still can't help but feel like it's forever away.

It's so painful to wait.

But it's a good kind of pain.

Ah! I'm so excited for Lock and Key. I finished Someone Like You today and I couldn't stop crying after finishing the last chapter. Halley and Macon were almost a replica of me and the first boy I ever really loved. Now I've read all your books, so I'm eager to read the newest addition :)

I bet that was fun taking Sasha to see all your old co-workers at UNC! I know what you mean about feeling "old" around all the college kids. It's hard on me because I *am* the age of a college kid (22) but I'm a mom of two kids. Then again I've always felt older then my peers so it's different.

I watched the opening night of American Idol, that chick who was flipping off the cameras and what not definitely had some issues going on. I didn't watch it last night, it's all the same thing. It gets kind of fun once the nightly performances start up and all the music guests come on the show. I never watched it until last season and got into rooting for Blake. He's got a lot of talent. Jordin Sparks was a good singer as well, just not my type of music. I think it's hilarious that neither Blake or Jordin sold that many cds when they just came our recently.

I'm going to Quail Ridge hopefully to get Lock & Key, if I can only get money from the rents. =] If not, to the library.
And sounds fun. I personally think that aside from the rose garden at Duke (which technically I believe ISN'T the campus), UNC's campus is the prettiest.... =]

I hope your baby enjoyed her first trip to UNC :) I am a freshman there and I know how much I love it when I see families walking around. It will mean alot to her when she is older: growing up and being a part of such a wonderful and special place. And I am sorry that you didnt watch the game last night...it was almost as much of a nail biter as the clemson game!

I picked up Lock & Key at ALA and was SOOOO EXCITED. I couldn't believe they actually had copies left. I started it two days ago and am almost done. I LOVE it. Thanks for another great book.

One comment...why does the book have to be so pink? I think some guys might like it but not with a pick cover.

One more...I want the necklace featured on the cover!!
