I meant to do a big holiday entry today, with great, deep meaning and lots of bells and whistles and good cheer. But then....well, I don't know what happened, but now it's somehow 4:30 and everyone's probably long gone from wherever they check these entries, headed to the places they'll spend their holidays with family and friends. If anyone IS still reading, though, I just want to wish you all the happiest of holidays, surrounded by those you and love and who (whom?) love you. Thanks for all your comments, your wisdom and good humor, day after day. I'll see you in 2008, if not before then. Maybe I'll even have some bells and whistles (or at least have figured out when to use who and whom).

Happy Holidays Everyone!

I wish you the best of the holidays, as well! And one thing I learned as an English major: how to use who and whom. "Who" is a subject, while "whom" is an object. Essentially, if a verb follows it, use who. It's those who love us, and those whom we love. Yay for being a [math] teacher!

MERRY CHRISTMAS, Sarah!!
I hope you are able to relax and enjoy a wonderful holiday with your family and loved ones.
-Rosalee

P.S. I still have trouble with the who and whom question, too. Gernally I think you were right. Who is used as a subject/nominative and Whom is used as an object...But really it's the holidays so good grammar doesn't matter.
Happy Holidays!

I find I take the grammatical advice of Toby from The Office:

Michael: Why don't you do the presentation, because you know how to do it?
Ryan: You know what I really want? Honestly Michael, is for you to know it, so you can communicate to the people here, to your clients, to whomever.
Michael: Huh, okay.
Ryan: What?
Michael: It's whoever, not whomever.
Ryan: No, it's whomever.
Michael: No, whomever is never actually right.
Jim: No, sometimes its right.
Creed: Michael is right. It's a made-up word used to trick students.
Andy: No. Actually, whomever is the formal version of the word.
Oscar: Obviously it's a real word, but I don't know when to use it correctly.
Michael: Not a native speaker.
Kevin: I know what's right, but I'm not gonna say, because you're all jerks who didn't come see my band last night.
Ryan: Do you really know which one is correct?
Kevin: I don't know.
Pam: It's 'whom' when it's the object of a sentence, and 'who' when it's the subject.
Phyllis: Yeah, that sounds right.
Michael: Well it sounds right, but is it?
Stanley: How did Ryan use it? As an object?
Ryan: As an object.
Kelly: Ryan used me an object.
Stanley: Is he right about that?
Pam: How did he use it again?
Toby: It was Ryan wanted Michael, the subject, to explain the computer system, the object.
Michael: Thank you.
Toby: To whomever, meaning us, the indirect object. Which is the correct usage of the word.
Michael: No one, uh, asked you anything ever, so whomever's name is Toby, why don't you take a letter opener and stick it into your skull.
Ryan: Wait! This doesn't matter. And I don't even care. Michael, you quit the other job, or you're fired here.

Random Question
Sorry about the randomness of this, but I was just looking for the audio book of This Lullaby (because it is my favorite book you've written) and I can't find one anywhere... seems you don't have one. You think you'll come out with one??

P.S. I'm really excited about lock and key!! Oh and Happy Holidays!

if you can replace it with he/she/they (subject pronouns), then you use who.
if you cannot replace it with those, then you use whom.
or at least that is what I have found to be the easiest way to remember.

a comment on just listen i didnt know how else to tell you
i have started and finished your book today and i seriously couldn't even put it down. it was by all means amazing and it really touched me. i am a huge fan of your books and i think your an amazing writer. reading is my life pretty much because i just love to get away and read something that is better than whatever i do in the day. a time to feel and be someone else. your books i get the full effect of actually being there and experiencing it. but anyways back to just listen right when i finished that book i thought i had to tell someone about this book i had just read and i thought the best person i should tell about what i thought of it was the author. so here i am telling you that it was a wonderful book and i really cant even describe my feelings about it in just one word. u should, ignoring every bad comment you have gotten on this book, be very proud and happy that u have the power to touch people and make them feel. i hope to be reading your books for a long time even after I'm not a teenager and grown out of the teen book section.
