So the other day, my iPod Nano died. Which was news enough, even before I found out that my husband's had also died, as did [info]sarazarr's. I know this is probably pure coincidence, but imagine if it wasn't? If, somehow, Apple was able to work it that just before the holiday season, a wide swath of iPods just completely pooped out, making it necessary for people to ask for them for holiday gifts? Okay, so it's a total conspiracy theory, but still.

Anyway, I was going to just ask for one for Christmas, but because I have JUST gotten back into exercising in the hopes of losing the rest of my pregnancy weight (hard to do anytime, but during the holidays, practically freaking impossible, right?) I couldn't do without an iPod. I can't work out as well with no music, it's just the basic truth. So this weekend I got a new Nano, and man, is it pretty. Amazing how far they've come since I got my last one. Plus it has a video screen, so I can actually watch The Office on it, if I was in the mood to squint. Which is just....very cool, I have to admit. On the flip side, I now have NO excuse not to get back to my regular weight. Oh, well....

In other news, reason 1,267 why I LOVE Friday Night Lights? The fact that my favorite book EVER got a shout out on this week's episode: the hunky/somewhat sleazy English teacher lends Julie The World According to Garp, and then tells her if she liked that she'll love A Prayer For Owen Meany. Of course she will! It's the BEST BOOK EVER! I actually shrieked out loud, I was in such emphatic agreement. If there was ever a doubt that this show and I were meant for each other, no longer. That sealed the deal.

And finally, speaking of books, I'm now getting reminded daily how much I love the ones for children. I read to Sasha every day, at least once, sometimes twice: her favorite right now is Moo Baa La La La, followed closely by Goodnight Moon. My favorite these days, though, is one my editor sent me: Thank You Bear. It's about a little bear who finds a box and is really excited, but when he shows it around everyone is really negative about it. Until he shows it to his best friend, who thinks it is just as perfect as he does. (Sob!)

Okay, so maybe I'm still hormonal, but it just gets me every time. Kind of like Owen Meany, I guess. A good book is a good book, no matter what age it's meant for, right?

have a good day, everyone!

I love Moo Baa La La La! Okay, that may sound strange considering I am a 22 year old college student but it is great! I always loved reading it to my kiddos.
That was my favorite part of my summer job - reading to my kiddos for 30+ minutes a day. Kid's books are so awesome.
Depending on what kid I was reading for I would read Moo Baa La La La, Angelina Ballerina, Junie B Jones, or Mouse Detective. Wow. Yeah, now I am really excited about those books.

I've never used ipods, because Apple products quite simply hate me. I've tried. I gave up. However, I love my new Creative player, which I can also do video on it, so I love that feature. Keeps me entertained during class (what I am supposed to play attention to my teacher?)

Facebook just told me you are trying to quit blueberry muffins... good luck. And now Facebook seems a little stalkery...

Long comment, I was in the mood to type. Time for laundry though!

Did you bring your dead nano to the apple store? Sometimes they can fix it... or give you a new one if you have a warranty. My ipod's headbuds just ripped in half and it keeps restarting songs on me. Ugh. They are such a ripoff, but too pretty and fun to pass up.

just your description of thank you bear made me tear up, and i am not hormonal at all. i don't know what that says about me, but now i'm super excited to go out and buy two copies: one for my nephew and the other for my best friend. who cares if my friend and i are 22-year-old college students and my nephew is only 5 months? it's just as you said--a good book is a good book, no matter the age it's intended for. and sandra boynton is amazing. i also recommend blue hat, green hat. kids books are so fun. thank you for getting me excited about buying some of my christmas presents. :-) (and when sasha gets a little older, i highly recommend the betsy-tacy series by maud hart lovelace. maybe i'm biased because i'm from minnesota as well, but i think they're excellent!

speaking of ipods, mine died on me the other day while i was shoveling snow. bad timing. my shoveling pace dwindled immediately. i totally understand your need for music in order to exercise. i don't know how people get by without it! (luckily, though, it was just my that my battery was dead. the ipod itself survives safe and sound. good thing, too, because i can't afford another one right now!)

I love Sandra Boynton! Her books were always a big hit in my classroom during my "first career" as an autistic preschool teacher.

My kids also loved the good morning one - I forget what it's called, but it starts off with "Hey big guys, open your eyes".

Now, as my teaching days are long past and my friends are starting to have babies, they can pretty much count on getting a Boynton starter pack from me at their baby shower. I mean, you outgrow cute little outfits, but Sandra Boynton books last for years (and the influence of early reading longer...)

"Barnyard Dance" is also a must-have.

It's so great that you are reading to Sasha! If you love Sandra Boynton read Hippos Go Beerk. Also, you may like Jill Murphy's books too. I am sure I'll be sending you other suggestions as you post other entries about what Sasha is reading! Also, visit your local library for great children's programs. Its never too early.

I am practically on my way to Costco for my new iPod. Why wait for Santa? My mini now holds a charge for approximately 3/4 of a workout. And nevermind this Nano stuff. I am going for Big Papa. (Though I really can't imagine watching video on it, as it would require major squintage for me, too.)

My ipod is also on it's way out. Although, mine is because my cat pushed it off the kitchen counter, so it fell a good 3 1/2-4 feet onto tile floor. I took it to the "genius bar" and they looked at it and said, at two years old, it had had "a good long life and he recommended purchasing a new one.
So, my husband bought me a new 80 gig for our two year wedding anniversary (today!) I love the big ones because they hold so much--the nanos are awfully cute though.

I think the fact that they consider 2 years to be a long life is pretty sad. My CD player still functions, and I'm pissed that my expensive ipod isn't lasting longer than it should. Grr at technology!! I'm going to go back to a tape deck to rebel.

I read A Prayer for Owen Meany this summer on your recommendation (and by that, I mean you mentioned it on here so many times that I felt I had no choice). It took me SEVEN weeks to finish it. But man, was it ever worth it in the end. The day I finished, I went to blockbuster and picked up Simon Birch.

Not. The. Same. It didn't do John Irving justice in the LEAST.

But maybe I only feel that way because I spent 7 weeks with Owen and only 2 hours with Simon. Maybe.

I want an IPOD nano badly these days. Sometimes I just need to hear music in order to go to sleep or to stray away from a stressful day. Before the days of Ipods and mp3 players I use to use the portable CD player. Now since my brother damaged it I have no portable music players. Sure I have a wallman radio stashed away, but who wants to hear the same sequence of songs over and over all day? Not me.

My samsung mp3 player died too. :( I bought it because I didn't want an ipod but it looks like I'll have to take it back to the store anyway. I think I might stick with my old samsung. It only holds 60 songs but it WORKS! (I've lugged the little thing over dozens of trips. It's been in the bottom of my bags and thrown around with all my stuff and is fine)

When I realize this, I tell them what I'm doing and they all say "Oh..." Hope you have a good week and enjoy your ipod!

That's such a coincidence! My ipod got STOLEN, and after that I was pretty in a state of despression, so I didn't even have some music to make me feel better. I was deprived of music, my life! *sobs*

ok, so that was a little overdramatic, but iPods are pretty cool. However, I doubt Apple was behind the crime... But if they were... DUN DUN DUN. Crime Scene Investigation: iPod Edition. That makes absolutely no sense, I know- I'm dorky like that. =] Have a awesome day!

My iPod died last weekend. I'm out of luck until I can save the money to buy a new one. That could take awhile. It must be nice to be wealthy enough to just run out and buy one when you need it. If I asked for one for Christmas, my equally un-wealthy family would laugh me out of the room. How did you exercise pre-iPod? I imagine you're capable of doing it. Right?

Just to weigh in on the iPod theory, since everyone else seems to be contributing to your "thesis": I am still the proud owner of a 40GB iPod Photo, that of the very first color screen generation. Mine will be three years old in January, and has never had any problems despite being dropped on cement several times - it's too heavy for the belt clip it came with when I'm running! The opening at the bottom where I plug in my charger is chipped, and the white top half has popped half-off from the silver half twice before. If anything, my iPod is trying its hardest not to die while I, apparently, try my hardest to kill it. So conspiracy? I'm on the "no" side of that one, mainly because mine would probably be pretty easy to dispose of. I'm jealous of your fancy new video one, though!

My iPod still says it's 2001 because it keeps resetting itself to that everytime the battery dies completely and I"m convinced they're set to die after a certain period and if the clock/date's wrong, maybe it won't know to die

Of course now (it being almost 4 years old) it is actually dying....but maybe that's kept it working longer? Well, I can hope pretend

My favorite children's books
I'm so with you on the childrens books! I still LOVE them! You probably have heard of these books many times, but I still remember 4 books my mom used to read to me. 1) The Giving Tree.. a timeless classic. 2)The Napping House... possibly more funny to me than what it actually was because of the way mom read it. 3)Silly Sally.. Not exactly a bedtime story, but it always entertained me! and finally 4) Love you Forever... I don't know if you're a FRIENDS fan, but if so, it's the story Joey reads at Emma's birthday and everyone starts bawling. Good times, good times.
Have a good day!

I've never seen Friday Night Lights though, but I'm sure to check it out. It's not based after the book, is it?
