Pretty, right?

My husband brought these home for me from the grocery store yesterday. Let me just say this: you just can't go wrong bringing someone flowers. Especially if that someone is me. I don't know what it is, but even just the simplest bouquet, plucked from our yard, can just totally make my day. And sure, on birthdays and Valentine's it's really special. But unexpected, unprompted, for no reason other than just someone saw them, and thought of you...that's the absolute best. And these are just SO gorgeous, like summer in a vase. I've smelled them so much that I'm making myself dizzy. But still. Totally worth it.

It was a good weekend all around. My Tarheels won the ACC Championship AND are a number one seed in the NCAA. I made homemade ice cream sundaes (twice!). Plus, it's Spring Break here in Chapel Hill, which always makes things feel kind of slow and lazy. Less traffic, more parking spaces. Everything kind of more laid-back, you can feel the emptiness. Even though I'm no longer on the academic schedule, I still like to honor Spring Break. I mean, not at the level of bikinis and jello shots, like on MTV---I'm a little old for that---but in a more subdued way. You know, like, maybe a pedicure, or another sundae, in the middle of the day if I'm feeling REALLY crazy. Party on!

Finally, I want to thank EVERYONE who left such great comments (75 and counting) giving advice on Broadway shows for my friend Courtney and her fiance. I KNEW you guys would not let me down, and now, of course, you've got me wanting to make a New York trip and see a show as well. Maybe in April, when things have calmed down a bit? Hmmmm. I know I am long overdue for some shopping, as well as a break from the daily routine. We'll see what happens. At any rate, you guys rule, but you knew that already. If I could buy flowers for you all---unexpectedly, spontaneously, and not on a major holiday---I would. Seriously.

have a good day, everyone!

They are beautiful, and I'm sorry I haven't helped about Broadway. The last time I saw a show was in 1990. That's just sad.

I saw Rent on Broadway and it was really good. It was slightly different than the movie, but it was still good.

Wow, I am actually your fist comment of the day, I feel oddly special to have beaten the masses! :) I love love love getting random flowers. It's just such a Happy thing. Just looking at that picture makes me happy, lol, they're just so bright and summery. I love it.

You did depress me, though, 'cause you reminded me that if I were still at UNC in Wilmington I would probably be on spring break right now, taking a week off from cramming all my procrastinated creative writing into one hopefully fabulous end-of-year-project for a non-fiction class. I'd also be properly planning for my Birthday which is in exactly one week, which I have entirely forgot about because my life now consists of waitressing non-stop since I have failed miserably in finding a Real job post-college.

Do you, as an accomplished writer and all that :) have any suggestions how a small town girl outside of Pittsburgh might use her BFA in creative writing/BA in english? 'cause I have found nothing hopeful and I can't even find anywhere writingish in Pittsburgh where I can do some small job hoping to find a better one. It's terrible. Also, I feel like I should know this or could find it somewhere, but when you attended UNC before you taught there, right? Did you get an MFA? Or skip that step, or get a normal masters, or... what? Just curious.

Sorry to inundate you with questions and my brick-wall life right now so early in the morning :) Have a good day, Sarah!

Aw, those are lovely flowers!

I'll be watching UNC on Thursday...only because they're playing my team and will probably kill them, lol. Props to UNC for getting to play in North Carolina...but it's kinda sad for us, lol. It's okay though, I'm stoked Eastern even got to the tournament :)

Spring break is fabulous...even if there is a ton of paper writing that must occur during it, lol. But the weather is supposed to be great, and I fully intend on making the best of it :)

Love the flowers. Makes me think it's summer out :) As for your Tarheels, it's because of them I have to work out all Spring Break. My basketball coach has taken their offensive fast breaks to heart and wants us to be just like them...meaning we have to run A LOT. I was actually supposed to watch one of their games yesterday but I was at a restaurant and an hour away from my house. Still, if they're a top seed in the NCAA and we end up like them, that can only be a good thing for us. Right?
Have a great day Sarah! And go for the mid-day sundae.

The sunflowers are gorgeous!

If you do happen to get to NYC to see some shows, you have to try to get tickets to the revival of Les Misérables. I think it's closing sometime in the next few months, but it's amazing.

That's darling. I love flowers.

I didn't know you had a livejournal! I am thrilled I found it now... lol

I almost met you once, when you came to Michigan for Just Listen... My friend Megan got to meet you. I didn't, however, because it was my father's birthday and I was very sad...

You are pretty much my favorite author. Because the characters are so real, I suppose. Plus real situations, you know.

Anyways, I love all of your books and keep up the amazing work!

Love,
Kelly

MMMM...Flowers!
I have to say that you are absolutely right about getting random flowers. If I could get nothing on Christmas, V-Day, and all those other ones, but have someone who would give them to me out of the blue whenever he felt like it...to quote a song "I'm in heaven/I get carried away" (Johnny Angel, no idea who it's by, it's an old song). The scent of flowers is enough to make the crappiest day amazing.

P.S. If you want to be able to smell flowers all the time without having your nose constantly stuffed in a bouquet, put Hyacinth in a vase in a room. They aren't the longest lasting flowers, but they have a gorgeous blue-violet color, and they are so aromatic. At first it might seem a little strong, but if you truly love flowers, you won't be able to live without it after a while.

Aww, that's so sweet of your husband.
Its my spring break also, so I am lazy... of course, I worked for three hours today babysitting - in which i walked nearly a mile? two miles? with a very heavy stroller carrying and 20 month old. i am tired and exhausted, but much better to walk than lose my eardrums with him screaming. :)
glad you had such an awesome weekend.

Oh! Unexpected sunflowers! That sounds beautiful! I have yet to experience anything like that, but now I can add that to my list of things to look forward too :) I cannot WAIT for spring break, maybe then I can actually get some writing done, and not have to focus on school. Anyway, happy spring break to you, and happy SUNDAES for days to come! :)

You know, I'm not a fan of getting flowers. I'd rather stay in the ground, especially wild flowers. I'd prefer a steak dinner or a back rub. Both would be fantastic. ;)
