Last night, I COMPLETELY flipped out when I read online that Veronica Mars was being bumped for the new Pussycat Dolls Reality Show. I mean, WHAT? I thought that this meant that Veronica was not coming back as scheduled, and proceeded to basically have an aneurysm, until I finally calmed down enough to check the true authority, The Ausiello Report, which clarified it thusly: "Veronica Mars will go on hiatus for eight weeks beginning March 6th to make way for the Pussycat Dolls reality show. Mars will return with five stand alone eps in April." To which I say: WHEW. And breathe. But at the same time, eight weeks? That's two months, people. What's up with that?

Plus, there's a certain irony, if not insult, to replacing one of the smartest shows on TV with, well....I'm not dissing the Pussycat Dolls, but something tells me we won't be getting the same witty banter, expert storylines and all around awesome-ness from them that we'd expect from Veronica and Co. And while I want to be hopeful, a few episodes, a hiatus, then five stand alones doesn't really seem to bode well for next season. I know, I know, I'm in no position to say anything about what anyone watches, especially since I did watch four hours of Idol last week. (But not this one: I am sticking to my pledge, no more auditions.) But it's like Owen Armstrong says in Just Listen: "If it can be pollution or art, why wouldn't you choose art?" (On a side note, how tacky is it to quote YOURSELF to make a point? Don't answer that.) I know the CW could care less what I think. But it just seems kind of lame. I mean, I'd rather watch Jason Dohring read the dictionary, personally, than the Pussycat Dolls do anything. But again, that's probably just me.

Okay, enough complaining. See how I get all riled up about the littlest thing? I think maybe, what I need for this Monday is a bit of zen. Or, barring that, thousands of superballs bouncing down the streets of San Francisco. I heard about this clip at a party this weekend, and I have to admit, even though it is a commercial, it's oddly soothing. Say it with me: ahhhhhh.

Stand-alone episodes? As in, not related to the rest of the season?

Aaaaaaah, and yes, a little aaarrrrgh about the Pussycat Dolls. Did you read about the controversy that erupted on their publicity tour? I laughed -- and wrote about it on my blog.

Enjoy your day!

Thanks for the VM update--I nearly had a heart attack just reading your post. I'm not thrilled with the five stand-alones. But then that does make the accelerated plot of the beginning of the season make sense.

The bouncey balls commercial is amazing and made me smile.

Yay for bouncing balls. They're sure to brighten up a day.

I don't watch Veronica Mars. It just doesn't interest me. But the Pussycat Dolls? Come on! Until America stops obsessing over mean, ridiculous, shallow reality shows, the industry will keep spitting them out -- because everyone follows suit instead of coming up with something original and intelligent. If last week's American Idol ratings are any indicator, America is still eating this reality stuff up and there's no escape.

Britain, too. Celebrity Big Brother caused an international incident this last week, which i think only served to boost its popularity. I can't think why anyone would want to watch a whole load of people being horrible to each other for series after series...

I'm coming to the conclusion that the CW doesn't care one inkling about VM. I don't think I've ever seen a promo for it, even when I see 8 billion for Gilmore Girls, Supernatural, and that Superman show. Why not promote VM right after the big GG promos?

actually, I've seen quite a few ads for VM, usually during Smallville ("that Superman show") or even Supernatural

The Pussycat Dolls? You're being quite diplomatic about it...so I'll just say...SERIOUSLY?! EWWWWWWWWW.

I'm studying abroad in Italy, and yesterday my landlady was trying to be nice so turned on MTV (as it's mostly in English with subtitles)...but ew. Admittedly, I just didn't grow up with cable (and I watched plennty of TV without),but I pretty much can't stand it--the Hulk Hogan-y show was on. Americans=MTV and the Pussycat Dolls...awesome.

Wha?! I had no idea about the VM thing. I was so looking forward to it coming back this Tuesday (aka tomorrow) but now I won't be able to enjoy it knowing they're taking it away! The Pussycat Dolls are ridicously overhyped and nothing they could do on a television could possibly interest me. I say everyone boycotts it.

Also, I think it's awesome that you quote yourself. You wrote a book, so hey, why not?

You are completely right to be upset! They bumped Veronica Mars for... a Pussycat Dolls reality show? Wha? And you're right, this doesn't look good for next year.

At least we have our Veronica until March 6th.

There's a really long interview with Rob Thomas on televisionwithoutpity.com. It made me feel better about VM things and not so despondent about the prospects for a season four, although, it still doesn't seem like a sure bet. (A note at the beginning of the interview says it's spoilery, but it really didn't spoil anything major.)

All we can do is hope the Pussycat Dolls don't get good ratings!

Veronica Mars is absolutely the best show out there. I could barely live without Veronica Mars for the winter hiatus, but another one? I think I'll die.

And there's definitely something wrong with putting the Pussycat Dolls in place of Veronica Mars. I hope nobody watches that show.

Anyhow, I totally don't understand the things they dare put on television. Seriously. The mind of people these days.

Although I don't watch Veronica Mars, I do sympathize with you!

And I thought it was pretty cool to quote yourself. I like that quote!
