Last night, I COMPLETELY flipped out when I read online that Veronica Mars was being bumped for the new Pussycat Dolls Reality Show. I mean, WHAT? I thought that this meant that Veronica was not coming back as scheduled, and proceeded to basically have an aneurysm, until I finally calmed down enough to check the true authority, The Ausiello Report, which clarified it thusly: "Veronica Mars will go on hiatus for eight weeks beginning March 6th to make way for the Pussycat Dolls reality show. Mars will return with five stand alone eps in April." To which I say: WHEW. And breathe. But at the same time, eight weeks? That's two months, people. What's up with that? Plus, there's a certain irony, if not insult, to replacing one of the smartest shows on TV with, well....I'm not dissing the Pussycat Dolls, but something tells me we won't be getting the same witty banter, expert storylines and all around awesome-ness from them that we'd expect from Veronica and Co. And while I want to be hopeful, a few episodes, a hiatus, then five stand alones doesn't really seem to bode well for next season. I know, I know, I'm in no position to say anything about what anyone watches, especially since I did watch four hours of Idol last week. (But not this one: I am sticking to my pledge, no more auditions.) But it's like Owen Armstrong says in Just Listen: "If it can be pollution or art, why wouldn't you choose art?" (On a side note, how tacky is it to quote YOURSELF to make a point? Don't answer that.) I know the CW could care less what I think. But it just seems kind of lame. I mean, I'd rather watch Jason Dohring read the dictionary, personally, than the Pussycat Dolls do anything. But again, that's probably just me. Okay, enough complaining. See how I get all riled up about the littlest thing? I think maybe, what I need for this Monday is a bit of zen. Or, barring that, thousands of superballs bouncing down the streets of San Francisco. I heard about this clip at a party this weekend, and I have to admit, even though it is a commercial, it's oddly soothing. Say it with me: ahhhhhh. have a good day, everyone! ![]() |

I don't watch Veronica Mars. It just doesn't interest me. But the Pussycat Dolls? Come on! Until America stops obsessing over mean, ridiculous, shallow reality shows, the industry will keep spitting them out -- because everyone follows suit instead of coming up with something original and intelligent. If last week's American Idol ratings are any indicator, America is still eating this reality stuff up and there's no escape. On January 22nd, 2007 04:06 pm (UTC), (Anonymous) replied: Britain, too. Celebrity Big Brother caused an international incident this last week, which i think only served to boost its popularity. I can't think why anyone would want to watch a whole load of people being horrible to each other for series after series... |

A friend showed it to me last spring, and now I watch it when I need to de-stress. I've never heard anyone else mention it before though. :) |
