I was out walking on our road this morning, bright and early, when one of my neighbors came driving by. She stopped, rolled down her window, and then held out...my US Weekly, which apparently got misdelivered to her mailbox. It's the latest one: I think the headline is something like JUSTIN'S REVENGE ROMANCE. I'd actually been wondering where it was, but I still felt that twinge of shame as I took it, thanking her. I mean, how embarrassing. Why couldn't it have been my Newsweek, or even Real Simple? Anything would be better than people knowing that not only do I READ Us Weekly, I subscribe to it.

*cringe*

In other news, I've spent most of my weekend watching various parts of Boys on the Side, which HBO seems to have decided to run constantly this month. Can I just say that I LOVE this movie? I remember seeing it in the theater when it came out (twelve years ago, hello!) and loving it, so much that I bought the DVD. But with it playing on some HBO channel at any given moment all weekend, I can just keep seeing it, in bits and pieces for days at a time. Last night I turned it on at the very end, and just sat there and SOBBED. Very cathartic, although my husband, at the other end of the couch, was rolling his eyes. I mean, it's got Whoopi Goldberg AND Mary Louise Parker (who I now love even more, from Weeds) AND Drew Barrymore AND Matthew McConaughey, in his pre-bandana and bongo playing days. Plus a great soundtrack. What more do you want? Also this weekend, I watched Cars, which was very good, although of course, because I am an US Weekly subscriber, every time I heard Owen Wilson's voice all I could think about was KATE'S HEARTBREAK, as him breaking up with her was last week's cover. Still, a cute movie, with lots of inside car jokes, especially NASCAR ones.

And then tonight is the Golden Globes, my VERY favorite award show, because it's laid back and honors both TV and movies. If Kate Winslet wins for Little Children, do you think that means it might finally come here? Here's hoping. I would love to see McDreamy win, although he's up against some tough competition, including Michael C. Hall from Dexter, a show I do not watch, but he did play David on Six Feet Under and for that I will love him, always always always. Plus, Mary Louise Parker is nominated for Weeds, and since I have been watching her all weekend on Boys on the Side, I'm rooting for her too.

Of course, regardless of who wins, I'll still get the wrapup and all the fashion commentary from US Weekly, which I will continue to subscribe to, even if it means my whole neighborhood eventually has to know that I am shallow and entirely too interested in celebrities. In fact, I'm going to go read about JUSTIN'S REVENGE ROMANCE right now, and I don't even feel bad about it. Or, not much. Okay, maybe a little bit. But I'm doing it anyway.

have a good day, everyone!

If it makes you feel any better, my mother has to pay for two subscriptions to US Weekly every year since that's one of the gifts she gives to my sister and me for Chanukkah every year!

Yesterday after browsing nearly the entire video store for something appealing, and finding nothing, I settled on the first disc of the first season of Six Feet Under. I feel totally hooked after only 3 episodes. I was really bummed this morning when I called the video store to see when disc 2 was due back, and they said it was damaged. Thank goodness another store has it, so I don't have to skip three episodes so early on. Anyway, I have your recommendations to thank for my new addiction, so thanks! :o)

haha thats hilarious about the magazine. its the same thing with my mother-she buys Us Weekly and....Star (gasp) magazine each week, and she would be buying people if it didnt come for free at my dad's office. my sister and i always bother her about why she doesn't just subscribe to it. she says she doesn't want to because she's embarrased for anyone to know she reads it-even the mailman.

I bet your neighbor has some guilty pleasure as well :] everyone does!
And I don't know if you saw it, but Grey's Anatomy won BEST DRAMA at the People's Choice Awards. Not a very prestigious award, but an award nonetheless...I'm so happy :) Mcrdreamy won best male lead (or something like that)! I love the cast so much.

No Worries
Honestly, Sarah, subscribing to UsWeekly is nothing to be ashamed of. In fact, you should be proud that you know what is goin on in pop culture today. :) So really, its no biggie.

Now, if your neighbor had come to return your Playgirl magazine? Id be worried.

Saying hello
Sarah,

You recently invited readers of your journal, those who remain a mystery to you, to reveal themselves. I thought I'd take you up on the invitation.
My name is Eric Campbell. I believe I am outside the YA demographic (39 years old, male). I am not that young, and on most days I barely qualify as an adult.
I read about you in a free publication I picked up at the local library. I subsequently found your web site and then the journal. While I have not read your fiction, I have checked out the journal regularly. I watch very little in the way of series TV, so a lot of the references are alien to me. Nevertheless, I view your journal almost as faithfully as I view MSNBC or The Drudge Report.
Speaking of Live Journal, you turned me on to LJ! A belated Thank You is in order. Thank You! I started my journal (paid, of course) a few months ago. I don't update it every day, just when I have something to say.
I find the journal dovetails nicely with my own writing pursuits. I have been writing fiction since 2001. I'm currently working on my 3rd novel, and I have written a half-dozen short stories. I remain unpublished but undaunted.
Anyway, take care, and thanks again for introducing me to LJ!

Eric Campbell

Shameful Reading
I know what you mean about the US Weekly. I used to be a fashion magazine junkie, but I always felt I should hide my Cosmos and Glamours when people came over. I've switched to People, which seems to be more socially acceptable.
