The Friday Five:

1. Last year, as a last minute Christmas gift, I bought my husband a calendar of New Yorker cartoons. One cartoon, per day, all year. I also bought one for my dad. They weren't all great, but there's something kind of addictive about having a new one to pull off every day, so I bought another couple this year. And guess what? The cartoons from the end of last year are repeating at the beginning of this year. Not all of them, but I'd say 6 of the twelve so far I've already seen, and recently. What's up with that? Do they not WANT you to buy the calendar for more than one year? I sincerely doubt the problem is that they don't have enough cartoons. Maybe it's just because it's the New Yorker, and they figure we folks out here in the rest of the country are too dumb to notice. Either way, it kind of stinks.

2. The big news yesterday: Posh and Becks are coming to America. This was ALL over the TV and internet all day yesterday, and Beckham himself was just on GMA via satellite. We've all been hearing FOREVER about how the U.S. is the only country in the world without a full-on passion for soccer, and this seems like that last chance to change that. Personally, I don't know much about David Beckham---although sadly, I am full of information about Posh Spice---but I did love Bend it Like Beckham. Does that count? (Something tells me no.) He seemed very charming and cute on TV this morning. I guess we'll just have to see.

3. Was it just me, or did that montage of people just staring off into space at the end of Grey's last night seem sort of weird? Like they just needed some filler to end the episode, carry us over to next week? Not that I'm complaining, the show did not disappoint, and it was SO nice to see a new one. I won't give anything away, in case you Tivoed it or are planning to watch it again tonight, but I will say that I would be VERY happy to see the couple that almost got together end up that way. Just my two cents.

4. It's officially: I am completely hooked on Stonyfield yogurt smoothies. They're portable! Full of calcium! Organic! And come in fun fruity flavors! I am still REALLY missing my coffee, but these at least distract me temporarily. I'll take what I can get.

5. Last night, I was scrolling through my Tivo Now Playing list and...there was a Real Housewives of Orange County on there. No! Apparently, it had somehow ended up as a Season Pass. (How, I have no idea. *cringe*) Anyway, this is just awful, because as we all know, I swore I would not watch this show in the new year, along with not eating snack mix or brownies. Okay, so I've already caved on the brownie thing. But not the snack mix! And hopefully, not this. I just couldn't respect myself. Plus, isn't Idol starting up next week? That's a two night commitment, all the way to May. Even with the O.C. going off the air late next month, I still can't justify this. So I'll just...delete it. And drink a yogurt smoothie. And respect myself. Hopefully.

have a good weekend, everyone!

The Real House Wives of Orange County is truly addicting. Especially when Bravo plays them all in a row.

since i don't watch Grey's (gasp) did you watch The Office last night. It was good. Of course, I think about 99% of them are good.

I have really fallen behind on my news knowledge, I hadn't heard anything about Becks and Posh. Wow, my brain really takes a break during vacation.

That is really stupid of the calender!

Hi. I'm one of those random people who has added you to my friends' list. )I intend to write a little intro on your post from a few days ago about your anonymous readers. Maybe I'll get to that this weekend? I don't know.) ... But anyway regarding # 3: that montage may have indeed been filler. Here what the writer of last night's Grey's episode says about the two-parter:

The first thing I wanna say is, my three least favorite words in television are “To Be Continued.” Truly. I hate it and I’m so sorry to have done it to you. It was not my intention. I wrote this episode as one hour. But we shot it and it came in at 61 minutes and we only get 43 minutes per hour and so we were faced with the choice of either cutting 18 minutes – which really would have just destroyed the episode – or shooting 4 more days and making it a two-parter. It hurt. It was painful and laborious and I was terrified that the decision to go two hours would compromise the episode creatively and it really was such a beautiful episode at 61 minutes… Anyway, we did what we had to do, and I think that in the end, we made it work as two hours and I hope that you don’t hate us too much for making you wait a week for the pay-off. It’s worth it, I promise.

I loved the Spice Girls in high school and still enjoy their music, together and apart. Posh was my fave of the five and I am so excited about this news. Becks is such a hottie (I, too, loved Bend it like Beckham) and he does seem, as you said, charming and that he has a sense of humor (have you seen all his different hair dos?!)

I find this all ironic, as I was going to post on your entry yesterday that I think it's cool that you are so support of NC basketball. I have never, ever enjoyed sports EXCEPT soccer, which is almost socially inacceptable these days, not to support some sort of team. Not that I set my life by it on TV, but if soccer is ever on, even if it's in a different language, I'll stop and watch a bit, and that, coming from me, is a lot. So anyway, I hope this does push up the popularity of soccer in the US, as I would be more inclined to watch a game, even maybe pick a team to support.

One more thing on this topic: on the Today show, they mentioned this move would help Victoria as well, as she's interested in starting up her singing career again. Interesting, as Bazaar had an article on her this month, saying she's giving up singing and acting forever and wants to focus on fashion design....

idol is starting next week? ah, sweet. i've been hearing some buzz but i didn't know it was starting next week. that's definetly nice. i love idol, but sometimes it is a slightly demanding show, with it being twice a week-and at the beginning, its three times a week. its crazy. that means i have to be free to watch tv three times a week for the same show. oh well...

1. Oh, wow, I can't believe they repeat! Every year, I buy the FoxTrot day-by-day calendar, and they don't seem to repeat (although if I followed the comic in the paper, they probably would because I think, for example, this year's calendar is comprised of every Foxtrot comic from the 2005 papers). Haha, anyway, I recommend it because, as I was telling my friend the other day, it is the perfect blend of nerd, family, and pop culture-related humor.

3. I just watched the episode a little while ago and I agree that the end montage didn't seem to make a whole lot of sense, although after reading the writer's blog it sounds like it really was just a filler.

5. Aaah, I can't believe American Idol starts on Tuesday! It's one of those things, like the holiday season, that just sneaks up on you every year. The one thing I'm not looking forward to is having to juggle between AI and Gilmore Girls on Tuesday nights at 8, especially since my family's TiVo will be far away once I return to college... I already deal with this enough on Thursday nights at 9! Haha, oh well, small price to pay...

Yes, American Idol starts on Tuesday and I am so excited!!! I will miss last season's people though, since I will turn on my TV and expect Kevin Covais-who I love with all my heart. Or as my friend's grandmother would say about Paul Hogan... "I'm going to marry him"- or Chris Daughtry and instead I will find... new people. wierd...

I scarcely comment on your entries because I forget or get sidtracked by something else. Right now I'm taking a break from 'studying' for finals...I haven't even started except adding the finishing touches to my history poster.

I loved the new Grey's Anatomy episode too! I think that Izzie will donate the money to Heather.

In your previous entries you said to identify yourself if you wanted to...
I'm Hadas, I love your books so much and when I found your blog I was ECSTATIC. I live in California...I don't have a livejournal, but I do have a xanga: www.xanga.com/frenchaddict88 My interests include: Grey's, Gilmore Girls, FRIENDS, Wicked, Rent, writing, reading, running, baking, and occasionally, photography. That is if I can get over the fear of everyone gawking at me when I take a picture.

I can't believe you've had this journal for so long! Too bad I only found out about it a couple of months ago...

My email is frenchaddict@gmail.com just to identify myself a little more.

I love all of your posts so much!
