The Friday Five:

1. This morning, when I went out for a walk at 7:15, it was sixty-one degrees. Sixty-one! If this keeps up, I may have to stop complaining about the winter. MAY have to.

2. The other night, my husband and I watched Little Miss Sunshine on DVD. I saw it in the theater, where it had been so hyped to me that I was kind of let down. This time, though, I loved it and (weirdly enough) noticed a lot more in terms of how well the shots were set up, something you'd think you'd be aware of less on the small screen. How often does a movie improve on repeated viewings? Not that often. If you haven't seen it, I recommend.

3. According to the tabloids (i.e., take it with a grain of salt) Justin Timberlake and Cameron Diaz have broken up. Why are all my favorite couples splitting? It's WRONG. And she just introduced him on SNL, like, a couple of weeks ago. So not fair. One person who is not upset about this news? My husband, who believes that if Cameron Diaz is single, she is just that much more available to go out with him. (I don't even point out that he is, um, married. I just let him have his happy little dream.)

4. Right now, I'm reading Jeannette Walls' The Glass Castle, a book I have been meaning to get to forever. It is a memoir, and really, really good. Like Mary Karr The Liar's Club good, which is really saying something. It's amazing to read about this life Jeannette Walls lived, growing up with parents who were always moving and barely getting by, especially if, like me, you only know her as a celebrity gossip columnist. Just goes to show everyone has more stories than you'd ever imagine.

5. Believe it or not, I have given up coffee. Haven't had any in over two weeks. And yes, I was only drinking about a fourth of a cup a day, but I do miss it, more than you would think. Still, I think it's a good thing for me. I wanted to celebrate this announcement by putting up that great clip from Will and Grace where Jack is completely overcaffienated, but I can't find it on YouTube, so I'll go with the next best thing. Sure, it's not coffee related. But it's Cher!

have a good weekend, everyone!

What's left?
Now coffee? What do you have left to enjoy? You cut out desserts, snack mix, coffee... Next thing you know, you'll be off chocolate and deviled eggs and then where will the world be?

last night as i was climbing into bed i briefly turned on the radio and heard something about Diaz and Timberlake splitting, but i wasn't wholly sure I'd heard correctly. i did not panic, though. i just snuggled down and pulled the covers up to my chin and took comfort in knowing that if it was true (or at least the word on the street) you'd cover it in the morning. thanks, sarah!

At the beginning of the week, I read on People.com that Justin & Cameron had split.

I wish the winter fans could get at least one month of snow and cold weather. This 60 degrees in January stuff is making me very angry and uncomfortable. Blasted global warming!

I'm reading the Glass Castle too! It's really amazing, it totally reinforces my thinking that if you really just ask, EVERYONE has a story to tell. People really are fascinating creatures in the depth of their life experiences. I especially liked the reasoning about the stars as presents :)

I read and enjoy your journal each day, but I particularly enjoyed this one. :o) I recently saw Little Miss Sunshine, and absolutely adored it...I'm glad you liked it better the second time around! Also, I have Glass Castle in my stack of about 20 books to read, but since you've spoken so fondly of it, I'm going to move it on up to the top. Lastly, what a classic Will & Grace clip...One of my favorites! Oh and congrats on the coffee thing, that takes a lot of will-power! :o)

It's snowing here, but it was about 60 degrees yesterday. I miss it already : ] And I loved Little Miss Sunshine. I thought it was very funny--that family kills me lol. That clip of an overcaffinated Jack is one of my favorite scenes from that show. I was so sad it ended. Great entry, yet again. I love reading this, it gives me something to do between your books. Have a good day! : ]

Jack's addiction to coffee is one of my favorite WAG moments :) It's a little out of synch and low-quality, but it's still funny:

Enjoy!

I just read The Glass Castle over Christmas, after my mom devoured it in two days and my dad finished it by the end of the week. Both of them insisted that I'd love it (which usually means the opposite) but I was enthralled. She's a gifted storyteller - and as a middle school teacher in a semi-rural part of NC, it makes me look at some of my students in a bit of a different light as well.

I read the Glass Castle this summer and really, really liked it. It's very inspiring and compelling, what she was able to accomplish in her life and how she was able to motivate herself.

Also, I'm happy for you to have your 61 degree weather in the south ... but send some good thoughts for snow up north! I REALLY wish we had snow up here!

A belated happy new year to you (I have been offline for awhile),
:) Sarah

Chewing gum!!
Dear Sarah,
I remember that you had a post in which you talked about Good Morning America and what your gum choice says about your personality (i.e. cinnamon, mint, fruit flavors...) I can't find it anywhere on the internet and was wondering if you remember what month or year you wrote it in or the outcome of the survey...thanks!
