Okay, so my Oscar picks were not DEAD on---and I certainly won't win the pool---but I did call Cate Blanchett and Jamie Foxx correctly, and Eternal Sunshine DID win for screenplay, so I will not complain. I watched the first hour and a half or so of the show, although I did keep jumping back to other saved shows on my Tivo, then returning to Oscar and fast forwarding through commercials and boring parts. I know that they were trying to trim time (and boring parts) by having nominees for lesser categories on stage, or giving out awards in the audience, but frankly, I just thought it was odd. Especially when they had people sitting down all in a row, and then the presenter beside with a microphone: it looked like a talk show, like perhaps they were about to take questions, or play a little game, like Rosie O'Donnell used to do when she went up into the audience. So weird! Chris Rock I thought was really good, and interesting, and I am bummed I went to bed before Charlie Kaufman. But I'm sure there will be eight hundred recaps on all the entertainment shows tonight. These days, you don't have to worry about ever REALLY missing anything, you know? Everything is on replay. Which is either good or bad. I'm not sure which.

Meanwhile, I ventured out yesterday and went shopping for the first time in ages. Recently, I've been trying to cut down on my retail therapy, and I had been doing really well, but eventually, something has to give, and for me, it was all about the Banana Republic card. They just keep sending me things in the mail (ten dollars off! fifteen dollars off!) and even though I know, in my logical mind, that it's not really saving money if you have to first spend money, I always get suckered in. I am a marketer's dream that way. (It's like with the Clinque free gift, which I always get so pumped about, even when my husband points out that it's not really free if you have to buy something to get it. Which is just so picky, really. And, um, true.)

My true downfall, through, is that you can now use your BR card AND discounts at the Gap. (The Gap is on to me too: they EMAIL me coupons. Email! I mean, how am I supposed to resist?) What can I say? I am not that strong. So yesterday I show up with my various coupons, and pretty much go a little crazy---I bought entirely too much pink---and while I do save money, I also spend money, and what does that mean? (Besides that I now, um, owe money.) I'll tell you what it means: more coupons in the mail and over email. God help me, it's a vicious cycle.

Still, I have to say that because it had been awhile since I'd shopped, I'd forgotten how much fun it was. I mean, really. There's a particular joy you get from it that's unlike anything else, that's special, like eating chocolate is special, and having a big long nap in the middle of the day is special. Oh, sure, there's guilt. But then, there's always guilt. So you might as well have fun earning it. Right?

have a good day everyone!

Oscars
I'll write my own post later but for now:

1. Chris Rock = too brash for Oscar. Also I hated his mean-spirited opening monologue and was thrilled when Sean Penn gave him a verbal spanking. Can we get Steve Martin back? Or maybe ask Ellen?

2. New format w/ candidates on stage = bizarre and uncomfortable. Hello, this is OSCAR, not Miss America. Cluster action equally as bad. Weird not even getting to go on stage to accept your Oscar.

3. Both my screenplay picks won and I was so so so happy. Love Alexander Payne, even though I thought ABOUT SCHMIDT was better than SIDEWAYS, and love love love Charlie K./ETERNAL SUNSHINE. Brilliant!

4. Biggest shocks of the night: 1. Morgan Freeman's win (though when they said it was his first, it made sense - they were honoring a career and not that one movie. Because honestly, he did more acting in that Jim Carey movie where he played God than in MILLION DOLLAR BABY). I honestly thought Thomas Hayden Church was going to get it and feel bad because that's probably the only shot Lloyd's ever going to get. 2. When Julia called Clint's name over Martin's. In the reaction shot, Scorcese actually turned to his wife and said, "Well ..." like he was expecting it. So sad. 3. And then I was absolutely stunned when AVIATOR didn't take top honors. I thought, "Here's a sprawling movie about old Hollywood filled with A-list actors - how could that not win?" And though I really liked MILLION DOLLAR BABY, I totally thought the last quarter of it got sort of preachy and maudlin and I don't know. It just didn't seem like Best Picture material.

5. I have never seen so many beautiful women look downright ugly. Drew? Laura Linney? SCARLETT JOHANSSON? If Natalie Portman hadn't been wearing her so-five-minutes-ago Grecian goddess gown, she would've redeemed young Hollywood, but instead, the job fell to Gwynneth, who isn't even that young anymore. Julia, too, BTW, looked absolutely fabulous for a woman nursing twins.

6. No. More. Beyoncee. Please!

7. Penelope Cruz is the poor man's Selma Hayek.

8. Was it me, or was Johnny Depp TRYING to look like Prince?

9. When Prince came up to announce the song thing, all I could think of was that SNL sketch with Fred Armisen as Prince and Maya Rudolph as Beyoncee. "The Prince Show!"

10. I am a dork and should shut up now.

OMG I completely agree. I don't have anything against Beyonce, but I got sick of her in five minutes, and it was just too much.
I really wanted Aviator to win Best Picture.

I didn't watch the Oscars. What did Chris Rock say, and then what did Sean Penn say in response?

Chris Rock was saying there's a difference between a star and a celebrity (or actor and celebrity) - anyway, he basically said Jude Law was just a pretty face and why is he in everything? And when Sean Penn came out he was like, Jude Law is a tremendous actor blah blah blah. Chris Rock's monologue was totally mean-spirited and I hope he NEVER hosts the Oscars again.

I went so crazy shopping over christmas break my mom but me on "propation", meaning I am exiled from shopping with my father's credit card. I have to use my own money from babysitting. This is totally unfair because spring is fast approaching, which means new clothes and accessories galore. I'm slowly beating her down, though. Yes, I know I sound spoil but I just love to shop. I'm addicted. It's a disease. I'm actually going through withdrawal. They should have support groups: Shoppers Anonymous. lol
I'm exaggerating...but still. I'm not really that shallow.
Anyway, there's nothing wrong with shopping sprees, Sarah. They're very good for the heart. lol
Long post again, sorry. I just love to shop.

Eh I sorta liked Chris Rock and then I didnt. Some stuff said was uncalled for and other things were funny. I agree, it did look like some talk show. Why not let them go on stage?! I found the oscars boring, I was just waiting to see Jamie Foxx win for Ray. Hillary Swank got on my nerves, am I the only one who was annoyed by her?!

I wanna go shopping! I feel like I havent gone in forever....Ive had to put out a lot on my car these past 2 weeks. Glad you had fun shopping! Have a good day! <3

Nope. Yeah, she was cute and all, but I couldn't sit through that whole movie and listen to her annoyign accent. *shudder*

And that gown? I totally saw butt-cleavage. Ewww...

"I was just a little girl from a trailer park who had a dream",.. That was kind of touching though... not as touching as Jamie's speech. *cries*

*Oscar Shock*
Johnny Depp- not very Prince, but still gorgeously hot. *rarr*

Penelope Cruz/Selma Hayak. You mean they're not the same person?

Jamie Foxx's acceptance speech: Gorgey porgey, made me cry. Especially the last bit with talking to his momma in his dreams. A bit of a Forrest Gump moment, actually.

Best Actor: While Jamie Foxx was phenomenal, and Leo was gorgeous, I was hoping Johnny Depp would win. I knew he wouldn't, but I was hoping he would. Poor Johnny. He always has awesome acting jobs, but there's always another better movie out there. Like last year in PotC? Totally snubbed.

Best picture: Omg! I thought it would be The Aviator. I really did. I wanted it to be Finding Neverland, because that movie was beyond perfect! I loved it! *sigh* Million Dollar Baby, I ask you...

Shocked over Renee Zellweg-however you spell it- er, she looked anorexic! Disgusting. That gown was gorgeous, but she was so hollow! She tried way too hard to lose the weight from Brigit Jones again.

Chris Rock: Great host, but lose the pop-culture jokes, please. This is the OSCARS, not Comedy Central. What do George Bush and Spongebob Squarepants have to do with movies, I ask you.

... Am also thinking that Shrek 2 was robbed, as was SUPERSIZE ME, because that movie was awesome. How can that not win an Oscar, I ask you!

Enough ranting,
Ta~

Speaking of which Sarah, when Chris Rock did that whole GAP vs. Banana Republic thing.. I thought that was really funny to me for some reason. haha.
Overall I was pretty pleased with it besides the fact that yeah, they presented the awards in like different spots through out the theater... thought that was kinda weird too.

Did you guys like Halle Berry's long hair? I think she looks better with shorter hair... fits her personality more.

You know who's Oscar picks WERE dead on? Leah Rozen, a movie reviewer from People Magazine. I was looking at an issue from a few weeks ago and she got all of the ones she predicted right. Best Picture, Director, Actor, Actress, Supporting Actor, Supporting Actress, Animated Feature Film, Original Screenplay, and Adapted Screenplay. WOW. Now there's a person who knows her stuff!

I was let down by the Oscars, as well. I thought Chris Rock was really funny, though (especially when he was talking about "waiting to get a star" and started to make fun of himself). But then again, when he was on Oprah a while back (last April, I think?), I thought he was hilarious as well.

And I absolutely hated Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind (don't kill me! I just thought it was stupid), but it did deserve to win best original screenplay. Was anyone else shocked that A Series of Unfortunate Events won an Oscar? It seemed so...wrong.

I thought Chris Rock did a great job hosting. He didn't seem so overly rehearsed as many hosts seem to be. I thought his Judd Law comments were funny...he obviously was just trying to get a laugh, and it's like what many stars say about getting made fun of on SNL and similar programs: it's a compliment, and it means that your famous enough to have people spend time making jabs at you. But I guess everyone has a different perspective on this. For some reason, I also thought his drive-thru Oscar joke was funny. I'll take one best supporting actress and a Mcflurry!

Personally I agree about Chris Rock....he was really funny, but just a tad un-classy for the oscars. I miss Billy Crystal! Now HE was funny. Chris got annoying after awhile. I also was unimpressed with the whole stage plan...At first I thought they were just trying to mix things up, make it more interesting, but of course it was just to save time with the "less important" categories. Could'nt they have saved time with less Chris and beyonce?!That would've been more fair don't ya think? At least those other people were nominated for something!.....And was anyone else dissapointed that Natalie didn't win best supporting? She is such an amazing actress. That said though, Cate was the best choice. She's a total legend, and she's older, so its only fair.
