Okay, so my Oscar picks were not DEAD on---and I certainly won't win the pool---but I did call Cate Blanchett and Jamie Foxx correctly, and Eternal Sunshine DID win for screenplay, so I will not complain. I watched the first hour and a half or so of the show, although I did keep jumping back to other saved shows on my Tivo, then returning to Oscar and fast forwarding through commercials and boring parts. I know that they were trying to trim time (and boring parts) by having nominees for lesser categories on stage, or giving out awards in the audience, but frankly, I just thought it was odd. Especially when they had people sitting down all in a row, and then the presenter beside with a microphone: it looked like a talk show, like perhaps they were about to take questions, or play a little game, like Rosie O'Donnell used to do when she went up into the audience. So weird! Chris Rock I thought was really good, and interesting, and I am bummed I went to bed before Charlie Kaufman. But I'm sure there will be eight hundred recaps on all the entertainment shows tonight. These days, you don't have to worry about ever REALLY missing anything, you know? Everything is on replay. Which is either good or bad. I'm not sure which. Meanwhile, I ventured out yesterday and went shopping for the first time in ages. Recently, I've been trying to cut down on my retail therapy, and I had been doing really well, but eventually, something has to give, and for me, it was all about the Banana Republic card. They just keep sending me things in the mail (ten dollars off! fifteen dollars off!) and even though I know, in my logical mind, that it's not really saving money if you have to first spend money, I always get suckered in. I am a marketer's dream that way. (It's like with the Clinque free gift, which I always get so pumped about, even when my husband points out that it's not really free if you have to buy something to get it. Which is just so picky, really. And, um, true.) My true downfall, through, is that you can now use your BR card AND discounts at the Gap. (The Gap is on to me too: they EMAIL me coupons. Email! I mean, how am I supposed to resist?) What can I say? I am not that strong. So yesterday I show up with my various coupons, and pretty much go a little crazy---I bought entirely too much pink---and while I do save money, I also spend money, and what does that mean? (Besides that I now, um, owe money.) I'll tell you what it means: more coupons in the mail and over email. God help me, it's a vicious cycle. Still, I have to say that because it had been awhile since I'd shopped, I'd forgotten how much fun it was. I mean, really. There's a particular joy you get from it that's unlike anything else, that's special, like eating chocolate is special, and having a big long nap in the middle of the day is special. Oh, sure, there's guilt. But then, there's always guilt. So you might as well have fun earning it. Right? have a good day everyone! |

I didnt actually watch the Oscards, but when I read that Eternal Sunshine won I thought of you sarah :) and how happy you would be that it got at least SOME recognition. |
Eh I sorta liked Chris Rock and then I didnt. Some stuff said was uncalled for and other things were funny. I agree, it did look like some talk show. Why not let them go on stage?! I found the oscars boring, I was just waiting to see Jamie Foxx win for Ray. Hillary Swank got on my nerves, am I the only one who was annoyed by her?! I wanna go shopping! I feel like I havent gone in forever....Ive had to put out a lot on my car these past 2 weeks. Glad you had fun shopping! Have a good day! <3 On February 28th, 2005 06:53 pm (UTC), (Anonymous) replied: Swank Nope. Yeah, she was cute and all, but I couldn't sit through that whole movie and listen to her annoyign accent. *shudder* And that gown? I totally saw butt-cleavage. Ewww... "I was just a little girl from a trailer park who had a dream",.. That was kind of touching though... not as touching as Jamie's speech. *cries* |

You mean they're not the same person? Jamie Foxx's acceptance speech: Gorgey porgey, made me cry. Especially the last bit with talking to his momma in his dreams. A bit of a Forrest Gump moment, actually. Best Actor: While Jamie Foxx was phenomenal, and Leo was gorgeous, I was hoping Johnny Depp would win. I knew he wouldn't, but I was hoping he would. Poor Johnny. He always has awesome acting jobs, but there's always another better movie out there. Like last year in PotC? Totally snubbed. Best picture: Omg! I thought it would be The Aviator. I really did. I wanted it to be Finding Neverland, because that movie was beyond perfect! I loved it! *sigh* Million Dollar Baby, I ask you... Shocked over Renee Zellweg-however you spell it- er, she looked anorexic! Disgusting. That gown was gorgeous, but she was so hollow! She tried way too hard to lose the weight from Brigit Jones again. Chris Rock: Great host, but lose the pop-culture jokes, please. This is the OSCARS, not Comedy Central. What do George Bush and Spongebob Squarepants have to do with movies, I ask you. ... Am also thinking that Shrek 2 was robbed, as was SUPERSIZE ME, because that movie was awesome. How can that not win an Oscar, I ask you! Enough ranting, |

I thought his Judd Law comments were funny...he obviously was just trying to get a laugh, and it's like what many stars say about getting made fun of on SNL and similar programs: it's a compliment, and it means that your famous enough to have people spend time making jabs at you. But I guess everyone has a different perspective on this. For some reason, I also thought his drive-thru Oscar joke was funny. I'll take one best supporting actress and a Mcflurry! |
On February 28th, 2005 09:30 pm (UTC), (Anonymous) commented: Oscars Personally I agree about Chris Rock....he was really funny, but just a tad un-classy for the oscars. I miss Billy Crystal! Now HE was funny. Chris got annoying after awhile. I also was unimpressed with the whole stage plan...At first I thought they were just trying to mix things up, make it more interesting, but of course it was just to save time with the "less important" categories. Could'nt they have saved time with less Chris and beyonce?!That would've been more fair don't ya think? At least those other people were nominated for something!.....And was anyone else dissapointed that Natalie didn't win best supporting? She is such an amazing actress. That said though, Cate was the best choice. She's a total legend, and she's older, so its only fair. |
